The guy was a cheat regardless to how great his prime was. Without the juice and the after effects of the left hands of Tony Tarver the guy wasn't even B level. I still love his old fights though. The juice had this *****h invincible and he knew it and his showmanship showed it.

I don't consider Jones an ATG because he was a drug cheat.

The hypocrites who slag off Povetkin are the sane idiots that support Jones. You complete jokers with absolutely no shame.

for all you tough anti PED posters calling Jones out and diminishing his career as an ATG I just want to say this, I lived and breathed boxing, it was the only thing I was ever good at and I saw RJ fight Park si hun at the 88 Seoul Olympics and that changed my entire approach to the sport and my appreciation of boxing as an art as opposed to a fight, roy jones jr in his hey day was the most dominant and superior boxer there had been since probably ray robinson, I don't discount SRL but his hey day was dominated by back and forward duels where he came out on top but dominate he didn't. RJ demolition of James Toney or Bernard Hopkins both 1st bout hall of famers showed his class and place beside the greats of our sport. For the PED flag wavers if we don't look at the amazing feet of winning the Heavyweight title from John Ruiz that does not alter his place in history and it certainly doesn't change the fact that ROY JONES JR is an all time great of our sport, and if you want to argue the point do it with someone that wants to listen to such uneducated dribble, but not me...

Jones was one of the all time great talents, but talent alone doesn't translate to greatness. He avoided dangerous opponents like Gerald McClellan, Nigel Benn and Dariusz Michalczewski. And get real concerning heavyweight. Beating John Ruiz did not make him the heavyweight champion. Lennox Lewis was the real champion at that time, and Jones would never have dared to get in the ring with Lewis. Jones is in many ways a great created by modern day boxing nonsense.

With all due respect, FK You.... Boxing is dictated by politics, you can point out who any boxer avoided which is public's frustration that a fight is not made, not the politics that was at play to deny the boxing fans of that fight... talented yes he was, well put... does that translate to greatness, No but what does is a fighter that came out of the Olympics at 154lbs and after dominating each weight class went up to test himself at a higher weight class , why maybe you can say that at his current weight maybe the opposition wasn't to the level, but for another less ambitious fighter maybe they would have stayed at middle delivering numerous underwhelming defenses.. but no RJ always wanted to test himself and prove himself, Roy Jones Jr is an all time great and in the top 10 fighters to ever lace on gloves IMO

Roy Jones Jr. is to boxing what Randy Moss is to football.

[QUOTE=A-Wolf;18476419]To answer the author's question I won't rate RJJ as one of the true greats for one simple reason; the manner in which he responded to adversity - which is the very essence of boxing and the true measure of a fighter. This is the reason The SRR's, Ali's, Louis's and the Duran's are considered the greatest.. They came back from terrible losses, yada, yada, ect, ect..

Let's be clear. It wasn't being past his prime that caused RJJ's record to go from 47-1 (should have been 48-0) to 18-8 (w/ 5 knockout losses). That's bull****. It was Antonio Tarver.

Tarver took his confidence. Tarver took his soul. On an EPIC scale.. So much so that almost anybody could KO Roy after Tarver was done with him.
When Roy lost weight to come back down to fight Tarver, he claimed it took a toll on his body. It seems Tarver caught him at the right time - literally. Only Roy knows for sure if this is the case. That punch Tarver landed didnt land so cleanly, yet it had Roy on quiz street & then delusion ave. And quite frankly, Tarver has never looked as good as he did that night against anybody else

Hopkins then beat up a depleted Tarver when he took off weight after guest starring in one of Rockys movie.....Tarver looked like crap in that fight. I really dont know the truth, but its been downhill since Tarver.....Roy wanted to end his career by fighting a depleted Tyson then ride off into the sunset.....A determined Tarver changed all his plans.......big time.
