  • The live gate receipts will be something like £20 million THANKS to Eddie Hearns dodgy StubHub connection - theory is they put the tickets on sale, buy them (or not buy them), then resell them double or triple the price.

You are fooling yourself. Joshua kills him.

Don't think so. I do think Joshua wins but it is a competitive fight.

It's really going to come down to the public pressure. If AJ & Wilder both win their march fights in spectacular fashion and the world is just begging for the fight, maybe Hearn will change course, but I doubt it. November or December of 2018 seems more likely and win or lose, I think it'll be a two fight deal and they'll fight an immediate rematch 6-8 months later.

The biggest obstacle to AJ vs. Wilder is a scenario where HBO is so desperate to land AJ, that they give Hearn 12 dates a year. If HBO is willing to go all in on Hearn, it's not really something SHO can match and HBO would love to stop AJ-Wilder from happening if at all possible.
All I'm saying is that Joshua-Wilder (or Wilder-Joshua, whichever helps the deal get done) at the end of the summer, and the rematch on Kentucky Derby weekend 2019, both on PPV, would be a heck of a double-shot.

At this point, I doubt if HBO puts on 12 cards this year, nevermind the notion that they'd give Eddie Hearn 12 dates to fill, but that's just me.

Well it would obviously be Joshua vs. Wilder. There's no doubt who the A-side is. There's just no rush for Hearn to do the fight. AJ likely dominates Povetkin and it squeezes out one more easy payday before the big showdown with Wilder.

Put yourself in Hearn's shoes. Why wouldn't you delay the Wilder fight as long as possible?

You could be right. A lot of balls in the air. Like with all things, until the UFC deal is settled, nobody else can decide what they're going to do.

Yet some people pretend that belts don't matter.

Yup that's why there is no excuse not to fight Wilder next.He will be paid even more and will have rematch clause.

Because the Wilder fight(s), a 50/50 to be sure, can launch Anthony Joshua into true global superstar status, and the Povetkin fight, also quite competitive, is still basically a lateral move.

Hearn will run the numbers, but if given the chance to launch Joshua into a global attraction to casual fans, versus putting on another buzz-building bout on in the UK (and hoping that neither Wilder or Joshua slip from Povetkin).

Unless the argument is that Joshua simply isn't yet ready, tbh

Still wouldn't make sense to rush to the most dangerous fight. There is a LOT of profit to be made on the Povetkin fight and one more interim fight each just makes AJ-Wilder even bigger.

AJ-Wilder likely becomes a trilogy. There's no other fight that makes AJ that kind of money other than Fury. For Wilder, there's no other fight that makes that kind of money period. So it's not something Hearn is going to want to rush into.

If Hearn is serious about three AJ fights this year, you have to save the most dangerous fight for last.

Povetkin's not a gimme either though, and the money on that fight likely ends up being the same, or less, than what looks to be coming in on the Parker fight.

Danger is relative; this is going to be ridiculous as an example, but would you rather bungie jump off of a cliff platform for $100 or skydive out of a plane for $300?
