I have a question for all the experts in this forum, what is the future of PPV in boxing and even MMA, lets take Canelo and GGG out and who else do we have for a PPV, loma cant sell yet, spence, joshua, wilder?. What I am trying to say, they can try and shove few PPV's but is there a blockbuster fight that have people waiting, I am not talking about hardcore fans, but casual fans since they are the ones the bring the numbers in bunches, I feel Boxing and MMA,specially in 2018 dont have any names to make big numbers, I am not talking May-vs Pac numbers but something decent. Any idea?

Well first off those types of casual types of fights happen seldom & they usually aren't THAT foreseeable that far out.

And as a PPV dork I can break that down real quick. Here's all the PPV's that boxing has done that have had 1.5M+ buys in order:

    Tyson vs McNeeley (1995) 1.5M

    Tyson vs Holyfield I (1996) 1.5M

Tyson vs Holyfield II (1997) 1.9M

    Tyson vs Lewis (2002) 1.9M

    Oscar vs Floyd (2007) 2M+

    Floyd vs Miguel (2012) 1.5M

    Floyd vs Canelo (2013) 2M+

    Floyd vs Manny (2015) 4M+

    Floyd vs Conor (2017) 4M+

So looking at this you could say only 2 cats are responsible for mainstream PPV interest in impressive numbers. Floyd & Tyson. Cuz guys who talk about PPV don't understand how amazing 1.5M buys is & how amazing it was Canelo vs GGG did 1.3ish or w/e it hit. Canelo is just on the cusp of hitting that mainstream appeal 1.5M number only 9 PPV's in PPV's 40 year history (really 55 year history cuz Ali vs Frazier III was the first PPV from my understanding but it was to a extremely limited audience & PPV didn't really become a thing til the 1990's when TVKO, later HBO PPV, was the main player).

So good luck predicting who can be the next Floyd or Tyson. But if I had to guess I'd go with Joshua & Canelo being the best chances that our around right now.

It won't be Loma or Bud or Tank or Eubank Jr or any of a dozen or two notable talented younger cats. I feel safe in saying that cuz you need a lil something extra. I don't see extra in any of those listed or the guys I didn't list who are among the top 2 or 3 guys in their division right now. Although at one point I didn't see that extra in Floyd either, but he created the Money persona & his whole career become a blueprint some cats now try to copy unsuccessfully w/o seeming to know the talent & dedication to the game gots to come first & the persona second.

I don’t think they’re are any. Canelo is clearly the biggest draw in boxing if he beats GGG his value could dramatically increase.
The winner of AJ-Wilder would obviously have huge potential. But AJ needs to open the US market which doesn’t draw at all in atm.

There never are...til there are. And like I said Joshua & Canelo are the best bets. And Canelo is a solid bet to be the guy who gets the 10th fight past 1.5M buys.

And Canelo is only 27, turns 28 this year. Joshua is 28, turns 29 this year. Floyd was 30 when he got his first 1.5M+ fight. Tyson was 29. So Canelo & Joshua are on pace or ahead of pace vs the two biggest names in PPV boxing.

Bummelo can continue PPV without Triple Gee.

            Bummelo vs Jermall Charlo
Bummelo vs Jermell Charlo (will want revenge the way Miguel Cotto tried for Jose Cotto)
            Bummelo vs Lara 2
            Bummelo vs Andrade
            Bummelo vs Jacobs
            Bummelo vs BJS
            Bummelo vs Eubank Jr
            Bummelo vs Lomachenko catchweight 143.5
            Bummelo vs Zurdo Ramirez
            Bummelo vs Benavidez
Bummelo vs any security guard from Orange Is The New Black

There are levels to this, and Mexicans buy anything

PPV is a dying format, what happens if Canelo loses against GGG ?? That is it no more PPV Stars,Winner of Joshua/Wilder,i dont think so,because apart from Wilder their are no American Heavyweights that are good.Plus Canelo has the Mexican/American/Latino Fanbase in America.Joshua wouldn't have that,Wilder only has the African/American Base.Spence/Tank/Lomachenko just dont appeal to the casual base. The Spence/Thurman or Lomachenko/Tank fights would all just be better off on CBS/or Showtime Championship Boxing

But I did mention taking canelo out of the question. He will fight in may and not until next year maybe, so who is left for 2018?

Why would you take the best bet to be the 3rd mainstream star in PPV history?

Its not like there are a ton of guys in 40 years of consistent PPV events that the most likely 3rd guy entering the discussion should be exited from the debate.

Its a rarer thing then people think to reach the point Joshua & Canelo have reached already let alone how big they could get. Ask most mfers to guess how many 1.5+ buy PPV's they've been & I bet most go over 9 cuz mfers don't have a clue how little its happened.

Joshua looks like ppv In uk now for his career, so unless he starts losing and popularity impacts as a result that will stay. Whether that will transfer across the pond only time will tell
