Comments Thread For: Canelo: I Need Convincing Win - Must Throw More Shots at GGG!

Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (49-1-2, 34 KOs) is looking to leave zero doubt on May 5th, when he challenges IBF, IBO, WBA, WBC middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (37-0, 33 KOs) in a highly anticipated rematch. They met last September, at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas - and the contest ended in a controversial twelve round split draw.

Don't worry, you need to win 6 rounds. They will give you 8. Oscar already told the judges not to be so obvious this time.

Canelo should be careful not to gas out by throwing more punches..Stamina has been his bane.

are they both doing Vada? pretty sure GGG is, not so sure about Canelo - as Breadman says "It always raises an eyebrow when a clear A side chooses not to demand testing"

Regardless of what happens in the fight his stamina is not going to improve. Either you have it or you don't.

This is a pretty fine razor's edge to walk, but necessary to win for Canelo, unless GGG gets severely old overnight, which I can't see happening. I have been waffling on Canelo's best course of action. Like you say, stamina has been an issue.

The huge weight swing from weigh-in to fight night is almost certainly part of the problem, but could Canelo still be Canelo and fight like Canelo if he wasn't past the light heavy limit before he gets in the ring?

He definitely needs to throw more punches to win, but I can see that being his undoing if he flurries to interrupt Golovkin's early pressure and runs out of gas. Canelo might be better served to throw more lighter punches, waste less energy and then sit down on his punches increasingly as the momentum swings and Golovkin's defense starts to loosen up. But I'm not sure I can see Canelo changing gears that fluidly and refusing to swing for the fences while he is chipping away early.

Bummelo did a good job in the first fight. He had to ensure that Triple Gee got his respect, and Bummelo had to throw bombs early to make sure of it. The only reason Bummelo survived was because of his defense and Triple Gee got tired. It's only natural for both guys to get tired when attempting heavy shots.

Now that Triple Gee and Bummelo know exactly the weight of each's power, expect to see both box more. Bummelo can use his jab repeateadly and do followup punches. Bummelo doesn't need to throw bombs anymore. He can save those when the time is right. He will be more comfortable. It has now been reported he's using a high altitude mask for deep stamina resistance. It seems like boxing fans have helped him unveil stamina issue secrets.

Triple Gee should just focus to close the ring and go for broke like Maidana did when realistically he beat Floyd. If Triple Gee does not do any of that it is because Gassiev is the new rookie at Big Bear and Triple Gee prefers to retire into the sunlight as the best Mexican fighter having a Draw with another Mexican fighter. There has never been anything like this suspense since the beginning of English boxing pugilism. God save the queen!
