ESPN isn't risking their money on this PPV, in all likelihood; Bob Arum is staking the money, renting the ESPN team for the fight (Tessitore/Kriegel/Bradley), and hoping beyond hope that Pacquiao-Alvarado/Horn-Crawford draws well enough to get ESPN to put up the PPV money for the hoped for Crawford-Pacquiao fight.

I don't think the event is anywhere near that price sensitive as you want to think (most folks who buy PPV host a party anyway; food/drinks/etc and you're basically looking at spending $150 on a fight party or $200 on a fight party).

I doubt the event tops 100k homes, especially if Mike Alvarado is Pacquiao's opponent.

You raise some good points and I think you're probably right. And I agree with you about Alvarado. He's barely a name and never had a fight that will tickle anyone's nostalgia.

Damn the anti Top Rank propigabda is out in full force. Alvarado Rios 1 and 2 were classic fights. Toe to toe wars you dobt know what your even talking about. You would be ****** to think the event does only 100k, even with Alvarado. Pacquiao Horn and Crawford are 3 top 5 welterweights on the same card. Hopefully its Ponomorov or kauvaliskis, but even if its Alvarado you people are fools for not wanting to pay 60 dollars for this but would pay 100 to watch maywesther fight a ufc fighter. When was the last time 3 top 5 welterweights were on the same card? This is definitely ppv worthy having Crawfor and Manny on the same card with Crawford fighting for the title his first fight at 147. Also someone said Espn is giving Top Rank short money but where is the proof of that? Last time I checked Top Rank fighters are fighting 3-4 times a year and getting paid top dollar while pbc is damn near going out of business fighting once a year each

Respectfully, I think you are unintentionally misrepresenting my statement about Alvarado. Or perhaps I should have explained in more detail in the original post.

I understand your defense of his accomplishments and his many tough, terrific fights. Alvarado made me a fan time and again against Provodnikov, both scraps with Rios, Marquez, Herrera and originally in his surprisingly tough, back and forth fight with Carlos Molina about ten years ago.

That said, outside of die hard fans in The US and Europe, Alvarado, like Provodnikov, never got the casual fan attention or interest that second-tier (in terms of fame and name recognition, not quality) guys like Winky Wright were able to achieve. That said, to the average casual boxing fan, I believe Pacquiao vs. Alvarado will register as Pacquiao vs. some guy they have to Google, and that will undoubtedly severely impact PPV buys.

This is the kind of comment that makes so sense, especially considering Pacquiao has a MUCH better resume than Floyd Mayweather. Mayweather has really played some of you to really thinking he’s the GOAT. Lol

Explain to me how his resume is much better. And don't give me that 8 division BS because we know some of those divisions are bogus. Both of them blew up after the wins against De la Hoya. Without the Mayweather fight looming Pacquiao would've been regulated to undercard status after the Bradley loss. Arum made up his mind on who he was backing with that loss to Bradley. And he did it again with Horn.

Lots of "not so happy" replies on this thread. Some not pleased with the fighter line-up, some not pleased with the promotors and their choice of line-up, and some just not pleased with any of the above. But let's face it, this is Bobs show (Top Rank) on a new network deal, and as boxing fans, we will get what we are served so we may as well make the best of the situation and try to use a little perspective here. Not a big Arum fan by any stretch, but this might not be as bad as we think. And here are a few reasons why.
Crawford is the star of this show. No doubt about it. Pacquiao is the recognizable name ( the marketing Bait for better words) that will draw both hard core boxing fans as well as the casuals to the televisions come fight night,...... If the price is right. More on that later. We all know Crawford is moving up a division and this is a title defense for Horn. That's a PPV worthy fight to me. Adding the Pacman to the Lineup just draws in more viewer and more exposure to Crawford and Horn. Pacquiao knows this ( as well as the fact that he is in the twilight of his boxing career) and as long as he gets a slice of the PPV pie, I'm sure he is fine with this. I have this feeling this will be his last fight anyways, win , lose, or draw.
Crawford and Horn are the young bucks on the scene so no need to speculate too much on them at this point career-wise. Does anyone know what Pacquiao and Alvarado have as far as any binding deal with Arum? Pac is on the way out, he knows it, and the fans know it. He may very well have a deal to fight again should he win, but for now who really knows. He's made his name, and fortune from the sport. God bless him. And depending on what kind of deal Alvarado has with TR, Mike may be cashing out on this fight, or this may be his last shot at a bigger fight. You gotta admit, closing out a career fighting a legend like Manny Paquiao and getting a nice payday is a double win for Mike. And why not, he deserves it. The man has weathered some wars and win or lose, most boxing fans like and respect him. Getting a victory to close out a career is a sweet way to hang up the gloves.
To me, thisi s the big crux of the matter. PPV!!! Now ESPN is the new kid on the block as far as PPV goes. Should ESPN/TR keep the price low, I think this would be a successful production. Keep the price low and sell high volume is the key to this card being successful. This model is what made Walmart. Charging too much and it's a guaranteed flop. With the downward trend in PPV buys over the past few years,...(aside from the May-Pac, May-MacGregor fights) we may start seeing more affordable PPV offers at more attractive prices in the coming future. Would I pay $100, $75, or $50 to watch this card? Probably not. But if it were priced in the $25 to $30 range, heck yeah I would buy it, and so would a lot of other people....fans and casuals. That's what,....two cases of Budlight at the grocery store?!?!? If the price is right, I can see this Crawford vs Horn/Pacquiao vs Alvarado card being money well spent.

If Arum wasn't trying to hide Pacquiao, he would've flipped the two fights; Horn-Pacquiao 2 for the WBO title, with Crawford's first fight at welterweight being against Mike Alvarado, with the winners facing off next.

He tried to make Manny rematch Jeff "The Hornet" Horn after Horn called Manny's punk card. Manny ducked it. People here don't want to admit that, but that's exactly what happened.

First they say Manny got robbed. Horn is like ok, let's do it again and see. Manny: "well, the thing is, I have to see to my Senate duties and my people..." Then he waits for Horn to get booked for other opponents, now all of a sudden he's available for a fight.
