It's going to be a long shot but I wouldn't mind seeing this go down in New York. Heck, I'd prefer it to take place there. It'll be a change of scenery for a big boxing fight. Change things up for once.Comment

Triple Gee and Bummelo just made videos that one of them is getting knocked out and that judges are irrelevant. They both said this. Why is Loeffler worried about the venue? Didn’t everybody say Triple Gee had more fans than Canelo in Vegas? Wouldn’t these same Triple Gee fans make more roars in the rematch, sellout again, higher ticket prices?Comment

I think Alvarez travels well. He will have support no matter where the venue.
But you are right... Golovkin has earned some respect in NYC with it"s die hard boxing scene. I like it
Too bad the City and State have made it way too difficult to compete with Vegas. Their right, but Vegas is completely focused as a city to make events like this, and the State is all in supporting itComment

Good to know that NY is still a boxing Mecca. It was the number 1 spot before Las Vegas took over. I am not a historian, but I am pretty sure that Cinco de Mayo is not that big a deal in Mexico. I think that it became big in the U.S. when the breweries in started promoting it in this country and of course that brought a lot of white folks on board...any excuse for a party! I am not sure when the Sep 16 and May 5 became THE boxing days. It certainly was not the case when I was a kid.I live in NY and it's a real boxing city with real fans. That's why a boxing nerd fight like Loma vs Rigo sold out almost immediately. There's also more Mexicans here than you'd think. Not to the extent of Cali or Texas but enough that Canelo would have a good representation of fans there. He had plenty of fans for his press conferences in NY vs mayweather and Cotto. As far as 5 de mayo weekend. Is that really a holiday that real Mexicans celebrate like that? I mainly just see white people using it as an excuse to drink tequila. Lol. Either way, NY has plenty of 5 de mayo parties that weekend.Comment

I can see your point,....
But after spending about a month working in the DFW area, that market is very capable of hosting the fight with more than sufficient infrastructure (hotels, restaurants, clubs and nightlife activities, many tourist attractions, etc) to support the fans and visitors to the area. All the same things that Vegas offers minus the casinos. For twin cities built on oil riches, they have their fare share of high rollers too. Yes Vegas is hard to top, but it’s not the “only show in town”. I wonder if and what Jerry Jones may have to offer as a bid package for the fight.Comment

Good post. People are saying a lot of crazy stuff. If GGG has more fans in Vegas than Alvarez, he would be the A-side of that particular match. I know that many Mexicans are fans of GGG, but that does not mean that they would favor GGG over Canelo. Mexicans liked Arguello and Duran, but when fought Mexican fighters, most Mexicans cheered for their own fighters.Triple Gee and Bummelo just made videos that one of them is getting knocked out and that judges are irrelevant. For Jones to outbid Vegas, Dallas would have to provide incentives and subsidies as well. Spending tax dollars to highlight a Mexican holiday and a Mexican fighter would not go over well with the majority of the Dallas citizens. Many would rather have that money spent on keeping Mexicans out.But after spending about a month working in the DFW area, that market is very capable of hosting the fight with more than sufficient infrastructure (hotels, restaurants, clubs and nightlife activities, many tourist attractions, etc) to support the fans and visitors to the area. Lol....... So All of Nelo fans live in Vegas and Ggg's in Ny is your point. It'd be nice to have the fight at msg but Canelo /golden boy are not going to agree to fight in a venue where the crowd support isn't likely to be overwhelmingly in favor of Canelo. They've never done it in the past so aren't likely to start now since they're the A side.Comment
