Comments Thread For: IBF Prez: No Issue With Sanctioning a Joshua vs. Povetkin Fight

Olympic gold medal winner Alexander Povetkin has every opportunity to return to the top of the heavyweight division after doping scandals and accusations. It was announced on Friday that Povetkin finalized a deal to fight with David Price as part of the undercard to the WBA, WBO, IBF, IBO unification between undefeated world champions Anthony Joshua (20-0, 20 KOs) and Joseph Parker (24-0, 18 KOs).

Of course not as long as they get a piece of the pie. PEDvetkin should be banned not fighting for titles.

Povetkin is a true legend. He deserves a shot to AJ.

shouldn't even be in the discussion for a world title shot but he's a top 5 heavyweight which says a lot about this current crop of heavyweights, decent boxer but a.j's size will be the deciding factor,if they fight I hope there'll be stringent testing which seals the deal of him getting wrecked by joshua

No, he doesn't 'deserve' to get his life shortened gruesomely in a gruesome mismatch against Anthony Joshua. Povetkin is too small to pose any threat to a REAL heavyweight like Anthony Joshua. Whilst Povetkin is going to have his life at risk and at threat from every punch he will take from Anthony Joshua. Povetkin is too weak to be anything more than a minor nuisance to REAL heavyweights like Anthony Joshua.

This has a good chance of happening. Neither one wants any real drug testing, and with the WBC out of picture without one asking for it, it isn't going to happen. Both get a chance to get back on the juice for a little bit, reap the rewards and just quit whenever they sign for a fight with real testing.

Also, Povetkin is just good enough to keep too much hate off of AJ for not facing Wilder. AJ can fight Parker, then Povetkin or fight someone easier in between. And maybe by then Fury will be back. AJ really wants that payday and he doesn't want to mess up all this money he is making every fight with a loss to Wilder.

I agree! Alexander Povetkin has no business fighting in the current heavyweight division. He is a fake heavyweight who happens to be a blown up light heavyweight / cruiser weight with 20 or 30 pounds of additional / extra unnecessary body fat. If he removes those extra unnecessary pounds, he won't be anything more than a natural light heavyweight / cruiser weight.

The old days of - 6 foot 4 NATURAL and REAL heavyweights are over! Any boxer that is shorter than 6 foot 4 and is competing in the heavyweight division is most likely on performance enhancing drugs. They are most likely not a REAL heavyweight with extra unnecessary pounds of fat in their body but are able to overcome their lack of NATURAL size by being enhanced chemically.

Be prepared to never see a NATURAL heavyweight boxer like Alexander Povetkin, ever again after he retires. The only NATURAL and REAL heavyweights that will exist after he retires are going to be the big, strong heavyweights that are 6 foot 4 or taller with well conditioned muscles like Daniel Dubois, Anthony Joshua and etc.

Alexander Povetkin was never a REAL heavyweight. It would've been flat out impossible for him to be even competitive without performance enhancing drugs against the current crop of giant heavyweights. Just like it would be impossible for Andre Ward or Sergey Kovalev or any boxer Povetin's size with 20 or 30 pounds of unnecessary extra pounds of weight.

Except the WBA have exactly the same drug testing protocols as the WBC these days.

Equally, Joshua will still make a boat load of cash even if he loses to Wilder... that fight will be a best of 3 fight without question. One loss is not going to ruin Joshua's career, it's laughable to think it would.

but usyk, gassiev and dorticos are 6'3,briedis is actually 6'1 but in today's shallow heavyweight scene they'll make a big splash in the division should they decide to move up..but I don't see them beating the big guys like Joshua, fury if he's as good as he was when he beat klitschko or perhaps wilder

I agree with that! Heavyweight division is really not poor, it's just different from past heavyweight eras. Today, skill is less important and size, physical strength and punching power is more important in the heavyweight division. This is why you may be seeing heavyweights today with less skills compared to past heavyweight boxers but that's because skills isn't as important as punching power and physical strength is in today's heavyweight era. So a less skilled, but very strong and powerful boxer like Anthony Joshua is going to destroy a more skilled but physically weaker boxer like Alexander Povetkin.

Don't ever expect to see a NATURAL and a REAL heavyweight the size of Alexander Povetkin in the future ever again, that is not on performance enhancing drugs. Every REAL and NATURAL heavyweight you will see after Alexander Povetkin and David Haye retire are going to be giants who are extremely powerful and strong but lack the skills of Alexander Povetkin or David Haye. The only way small heavyweights like Povetkin and Haye can compete at the top level of the heavyweight division is if they are allowed to consume performance enhancing drugs. Otherwise, they have 0% chance of succeeding. It's as simple as that!

If that's what you'd rather prefer, then that's cool! I personally haven't got a problem with performance enhancing drugs myself if boxers consume them.
