We all know this was to build a AJ/Povetkin fight. That means a British fighter as an opponent for Povetkin. Whyte has his own mandatory position to protect, Bellew and Haye are fighting each other, Fury is coming off a loss and would make Povetkin look bad. That only leaves Price and Chisora.
I thought “Whyte will fight anyone though and he is avoided”😂😂 now he needs to be “protected”😭😭
Those are just excuses, I’m sure Povetkin beating a legit contender on UK soil does A LOT more to build an AJ fight that beating David Price a guy even the casual British fans know is damaged goods.

Shame on the IBO for not sanctioning this for one of their prestigious intercontinental titles.

Well looks like Povetkin needs protecting too then as he chose the easier Price over Chisora.

Whyte already has a fight with Browne set up too which is another reason why he couldn't of been next for Povetkin even if Povetkin wanted it which I doubt he would have.

Sure, but unfortunately such is the money available now by fighting Joshua that no-one who is near such a clash is likely to risk it by taking risks. No-one wants to blow their shot at a life changing purse.

Povetkin wants an easy night in front of the UK public. He gets to sample the 70,000 crowd experience and look good against an opponent who has next to no chance but retains some name recognition in the UK at least.

I'm glad he's fighting on the undercard but if he was really given the choice between the two it's a shame he's picked Price. Chisora would be a more credible opponent, at least on his day he can step up a level as he showed against Whyte.

I'm actually worried for Price's well being. He looked completely shot in his last fight which was painful to watch. By all accounts he's a nice fella, I don't think he belongs in that ring any more, certainly not with someone of Povektin's calibre.

At least Chisora is durable although he’s awful also. But feeding Price to the lions like this is just straight up dangerous, and the fact Hearn is trying to sell is as some sort of feel good story is disgusting.
Price is a good guy, I’ve met him many times, he’s a very approachable and down to earth guy, I wish he’d just retire or at least just fight at a suitable level.

There’s no actual evidence Povetkin turned down Chisora.
You’re just putting 2 and 2 together and coming up with 5.
Povetkins resume is solid he’d have no problem fighting a gatekeeper like Chisora.

I've not met him but I know some guys who have and they all say the same thing. A very genuine and likable man. Having watched that last fight I don't think there's a level for him in pro boxing any more. His opponent was the definition of journeyman and Price looked anything but comfortable.

True to an extent as all we know is that Hearn offered Povetkin Price and Chisora for the AJ undercard, nothing to suggest Chisora said yes to it like Price did.

But going by Chisora's track record he never turns down a fight, look at who he's fought, as long as the money is right which isn't that much to be fair, he would of accepted.

So if both Chisora and Price did agree then it comes down to Povetkin choosing.

I agree that Povetkin has nothing to fear from Chisora, he'd win, but Chisora would of given him a tougher, longer nights work than Price and if the money was the same, any person would choose the easier fight.
