Golovkin saying 154-168 and saying he was willing to fighting Canelo at a CW earlier kind of made it an obligation. But of course he got a pass and Canelo was blamed.

Golovkin was always open for a BIG PPV fight at 154-168.

At 168 there was no big PPV fight. Only Froch but he demanded 172. At 154 there was Mayweather.

At 155-160 at some point there was Canelo, but as it was proven, they weren't going to give him a share of the PPV either. And as everyone knows Canelo was heavier than him so once Golovkin unified titles he didn't have a reason to give a CW. Eventually Canelo would have to fight him at 160. Nowhere else to hide.

1) Mayweather was a JMW at some point. Canelo was a MW hiding at 155.
2) The fights against Canelo proposed before were not for the MW title as it was in 2016.
