Ridiculous analogy with golovkin. Golovkin had 2 of the main belts and was the top ticket seller in the states next to canelo. He was already a star.

Spence thurman is a unification fight. Thurman isn't a bigger draw than spence.

boxing is not a video-game dude

Thurman will need to blow out some cobwebs, recover from surgery, and get rid of that ring rust..... not eat some power-ups and be good to go

and surely you can see that Spence is a higher level opponent than Garcia?..... surely?

it makes sense to be as sharp as possible before facing Spence

and Golovkin was nothing to Cotto/Canelo..... who cares about Golovkin 2 belts..... Cotto was the WBC/lineal champ and a bonafide SUPERSTAR..... Golovkin, was not

when Golovkin refused to negotiate on weight with Cotto, he removed himself from the Cotto-sweepstakes.....

why the fk would those guys bend over for him?

and why the fk would Keef bend over for my boy Spence?

a tuneup > Garcia or Porter > Spence..... would be perfect..... Spence would not want any excuses

In fact, it is one of this sport's biggest problems, that the people who are supposed to uphold its integrity and push for the right thing to happen, are hoping for the wrong thing to happen, just so they can keep supporting their favourites.

It's a sorry, pathetic piece, worthy of Fitzsimmons and Rold, two of the worst writers on here.

There shouldn't be any excuse, beyond possibly one so called tune up. This is plain cowardice.

      just wow

Why should the 2 leading champions not fight each other asap? There is no boxing or logical answer to that beyond "Thurman is scared". It really is simple as that. If one is that scared, give up your damn titles and fight in the lower leagues. No one would be pissed off.

If one is a champion, he must fight other champions.

the injury excuse isn't even an excuse. He has been away for 10 months. That is enough time to have your operation and recuperate. By the time he does return, he would have been out of the ring for 15 months...you're telling me he still needs to recuperate from that?

heck, a 50+ year old Tom Cruise just returned from a broken ankle to finish filming numerous stunts for his latest movie. Thats a damn middle aged actor. Thurman's an athlete.

fans like you are facilitating the destruction of the sport.

        wtf ?????

DUDE, the guy has been away from the sport for 14 months and undergone surgery

        wtf ?????

I don't think so. Thurman's resume isn't all that, he should be looking to stack it with good names. He's sort of an up and comer himself if you think about it, he has like only 2 good fighters there, that were highly ranked when he beat them, Porter and DSG. Spence has one in Kell Brook, so they're not too far apart.

I don't give a fk about your inactivity

I don't give a fk about your surgery

I don't give a fk about your rehab

I don't give a fk about your ring rust

just fight Spence before the weekend, and do it early..... so that I have time to watch a re-run of friends, the 10pm news, screw my fat ugly wife, and still get 8 hours sleep for work tomorrow

Yes, he has been away for over a year. He has had his operation and would have gone through his rehab. Why does he need ANOTHER year to fight a fellow champ?

you are drowning under your own logical gymnastics trying to make it sound right. It's embarrassing.

No one has said anything close to that. You're acting if he has spent the last 13 or however many months just sitting at home not doing anything and he had his operation yesterday.

the guy has had his op, has gone through rehab and will have been in training for a while now. Fair enough, he wants the Porter rematch next...apparently, nothing is confirmed for his come back.

Let's grant him that but why does he want another year before fighting Spence? You know it makes no sense. YOu sound like a child.

if Thurman wants to fight Spence after a tuneup, that is up to him..... and if he feels that he needs one more "get-back" fight, that is up to him

it sounds absurdly childish for you to demand that Thurman fit in with your busy schedule

it is one more fight following surgery and a layoff

                    get a grip

Thurman is doing the right thing if he wants to keep his 0 in place.
