Comments Thread For: Fortuna Blames Weather for Missing Weight for Easter Fight

Javier Fortuna is the smaller man, but you wouldn't have known it when he and Robert Easter Jr. weighed in Friday afternoon at the Brooklyn Marriott for their lightweight title fight. The 5-feet-11 Easter, who's unusually tall for the lightweight division, made weight comfortably for their 135-pound title fight Saturday night at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Easter (20-0, 14 KOs), of Toledo, Ohio, got on the New York State Athletic Commission's scale at 134 pounds.

So his excuse is it was too cold outside for him to work off the extra lbs? And no gyms in NY where he could train indoors?

He should be able to drop a lb & change in 2hrs. If he does a lot of outside training I could see how the weather could eff up his weight cutting.

As long as he makes it in 2hrs its much ado about nothing.

Purely speculating, but he mighta expected the weight to come off easier than it did. Training outside in a warmer climate is obviously different than training inside in a colder climate.

But its w/e. He's a lb & change over. If he can't drop that in 2hrs he might have issues well beyond sweating off a couple extra lbs cuz he's not even been making 135 during his recent LW fights.

He better lose the weight but either way he's losing tomorrow. His defense is suspect and he swings wild at times recipe for disaster!! Easter by KO

I hope this dude didn't take a trip uptown to go eat in the heights and is not using the weather as an excuse for indulging in that delicious Dominican food up there.

If he's living in Braintree, Mass he's used to cold weather. It was -9 F there for several days only a couple of weeks ago. He's been in a cold weather climate for a while. Moving up a division doesn't give carte blanche to over eat.
