Jay Deas, head trainer and co-manager of World Boxing Council heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (39-0, 38 KOs), is fully aware of the danger involved in their upcoming assignment. On Friday, it was officially announced that Wilder would defend his title against undefeated Cuban puncher Luis Ortiz (28-0, 24 KOs) at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Just like GGG-Canelo two, this is a fight with good names, but not a good fight, because one of those names has been strategically waited out until he got old in each of those matchups. Boxing fans who support either of these events or hype them up to their friends are part of what is ruining the sport. Ruining great matchups by waiting until the B-side is 35 to 40 years old should be one of the most frowned upon things in boxing, but somehow in today's ducker era, certain boxers, promoters, and both premium channels have tried to normalize it and legitimate it.

It's not legitimate. In fact, it makes the fights, and their predictable results, totally illegitimate in the annals of boxing history. This would have been an amazing fight three years ago, and guess what, Deontay Wilder was already 29 three years ago. Completely in his peak, with experience to boot. The end of his peak, really, truly, his absolute peak, his best years, just like Lomachenko and Crawford just absolutely peaked at around the same age. Ortiz would have been around 35, slightly past his prime already, so Wilder already would have had an advantage, and Wilder would have been at his ultimate peak. The perfect time to make the fight. Heck it could have happened 5 years ago to really make it an even playing field. But at least 3. To wait this long is an insult to boxing fans and a total disrespect to the history of the sport, as well as to Luis Ortiz and his team and family who deserved more of a fair opportunity in this fight. Same goes for Canelo-GGG.

Lol excuses already you prob gave Joshua credit for beating a 40 year old inactive Klitschko and Ortiz is 38 only 3 years older than GGG whos probably your favourite fighter. The hate for Wilder is real

Strategically waited out? Ortiz Just recently became Wilders Mandatory and he fought him right away. Wasn't he Joshua's Mandatory before he was Wilders and Joshua didn't want to fight him, wanted to fight Pulev. How is this anything like Canelo GGG? Canelo literally dropped his belt to avoid GGG. You just sound dumb.

You forget Joshua has 2 belts so 2 different mandatories. He's fixing to have 3. Most organisations rarley rank the same fighter the same rank as the others do. Wilder is the b1tch with just one belt
