Comments Thread For: Rios Determined to Prove He's Not a 'Washed-Up Punching Bag'

Brandon Rios knows what's being said and written about him. Skeptics consider him a shot fighter, entirely too tattered to legitimately compete with Danny Garcia when they square off February 17 in Las Vegas. Those critics have dismissed Rios as a glorified punching bag, a hopeless underdog in way over his head against a former WBC welterweight champion who remains in his physical prime.

Wrong guy to do it against.

Hate the way Rios' career has gone since the Pacquiao fight. Dude should have been fighting the likes to Guerrero, Kamegai, Soto Karass, Gomez, DeMarco, Matthyse, Molina, ect etc. Instead he's used as fodder.

Rios isn’t washed up he’s always been an overrated plodder. He depended on his size and fighting men smaller than him at the lower weights.
Now that he can non longer drain himself down to have a size advantage he’s getting beaten like a drum.

I like watching him fight. He was never a great fighter though. He would never have beaten Bradley anyway but there's no way Bradley stops a normal version of Rios. Rios killed himself to make weight in that fight and was really a dead man walking going into that ring. I'm not sure there's lot to take from that fight really, i don't think it told the true story of where Rios is at.

If he can dedicate himself and not ballooning up and killing himself to make weight, i think he's still tough enough to make for some pretty good fights. He's never going to beat the top fighters in the division but he can still have good fighters with the fighters just below that.

It's a pretty bad look when you get KO'd by Timothy Bradley though.

                I hope Rios whoops Garcia.
I'm so sick of Garcia and his minimum risk choice of opponents. I can't wait for one of them to knock him on his a$$. I hope its Rios.

And why the hell would Showtime pay a license fee for this crap?

With a bit of luck Rios will knock Garcia out... I doubt that happens though and if it goes to the card then Garcia gets the nod regardless of how the fight plays out. Gardia TKO 8
