of course not. you think anybody is trying to sell a non title fight at a casino? makes it a hell of a lot easier to attract casuals who don't know the difference between the green belt or the red belt, or that there are four per weight, or that there are five weight classes between 115 and 130 lbs.
Will boxing EVER get rid of the extra weight classes?

You lost me on this. Why would a guy who presently makes 147 have to move up if the intermediate classes were removed? All you would see/hear is weight bullying and there would be a lot of talented guys who never make it anywhere because they're too small for the divisions. The other thing you would see is severe weight cutting like we had in the UFC.
To make it clearer, what if they did get rid of every other weight class but it was 147, 160, 175, etc? Golovkin would now have to fight at 168 and many of the big guys at 175 would now cut down to 168. You think it would be fair to Golovkin to have to face those guys when they are doing George StPierre style weight cuts and showing up huge on fight night? Because, that's exactly what would happen.Comment

If 147 were to no longer exist, he would have to go either up or down. What is unclear about that?
To further explain, I was illustrating how fighters become disadvantaged. I used Golovkin (who he likes) as the example.Last edited by Redd Foxx; 01-09-2018, 04:19 PM.Comment

Before getting rid of weight classes, I'd rather have 5 judges (1 in each corner and 1 watching a live feed on a monitor with no commentary)and an extra round if the fight ends in a draw
But I hear you, I'd like less weight classes too, but I think there's a lot of other things to fix before thisComment

In that case Golovkin would probably had a career at 154.All you would see/hear is weight bullying and there would be a lot of talented guys who never make it anywhere because they're too small for the divisions. The other thing you would see is severe weight cutting like we had in the UFC.

I often wonder how he would have done there but when I see him at weigh-ins, I feel like there's no way he could ever do 154. He seems to be really steady/consistent as far as weight goes. Not one of these guys who fluctuates a lot or even could.Comment

ID rather see just one champ per div.Got a feeling neither of us will get what we want. But WBC is talking about a 220 pound div now that would be TERRABLE for boxing. The cruiser div has just stared getting good because most of these guys know they cant compete at heavy.Although there is still more money being a top 15-20 heavy then a cruiser titlest. If they HAVE TO make another div then it should be between 175 and cruiser. You could move cruiser to 205 without ruining it and make a super light heavy div at 185.And get rid of one of the lowest div how about 106,110,114,118 that gets rid of one and only messes with one of original 8 div moving flyweight to 110 and then we would have at least 4pds between div at bottom.Comment

People need to realize that not EVERYONE is made to go up many divisions. Most of time its tougher to just lock down a div for a number of years and just beat WHOEVER comes your way.Winning titles in multiple div CAN be WAY overrated esp when used to avoid certain fighters and style's.Comment

Sometimes I agree with you, but then I look at the huge gap between 175 & 200lbs and I go, man, shouldn't there be a 190lb division or something?
I'd rather just there be one champ per division before any of that, thoughComment

I didnt talk about any other Weight class. And yes CW used to be at 190.Comment
