They are hurting the sport so much.

Get rid of 130, 140, 154, 168, ASAP. Things will get much better soon.

The promoters and networks want the extra belts and they're not going to get rid of them.

It's possible that some day a UFC style league will emerge that may prefer to utilize less than 17 weight classes, but in terms of the existing organizations reducing the number of divisions, it'll never happen.

Weight classes matter. Get rid of 140 and 168? Are you high?

if anything theres more chance they will add new divisions, like superheavyweight, rather than trim them down

No there's too much talent in a lot of weight classes, they should definitely get rid of some of them especially the small ones. The cruiserweight division should be extended 5 lbs to weed the small heavyweights out

A superheavyweight division would improve the sport greatly.

All you would see/hear is weight bullying and there would be a lot of talented guys who never make it anywhere because they're too small for the divisions. The other thing you would see is severe weight cutting like we had in the UFC.

To make it clearer, what if they did get rid of every other weight class but it was 147, 160, 175, etc? Golovkin would now have to fight at 168 and many of the big guys at 175 would now cut down to 168. You think it would be fair to Golovkin to have to face those guys when they are doing George StPierre style weight cuts and showing up huge on fight night? Because, that's exactly what would happen.

Too much money to be made with sanctioning fees, so weight classes and belts aren't going anywhere. If anything, we'll see more titles and possibly even more weight classes. It will get worse before it ever gets better.
