Comments Thread For: Spence Seeks Spot as Boxing's Best With 'Mayweather, Ward Gone'

Errol Spence Jr. doesn't just want to be viewed as boxing's best welterweight. The unbeaten IBF 147-pound champion is determined to become the best boxer in the entire sport. Spence considers that title up for grabs now that two undefeated stars former light heavyweight and super middleweight champ Andre Ward and former five-division champ Floyd Mayweather Jr. are retired.

if Spence stays at 147..he's gonna have to beat thurman..as long as thurman is the unified champ of the division to be recognised as boxing's best..great objective..he can be just that but for how long can he make 147?..he should be looking at 154 for further dominance

Andre "Son of Golata" was never the best in boxing. He was debatable but never clear. Getting dropped and winning a controversial decision and then gaining a stoppage with a low blow and bias ref isn't really being at the top of the game. Sorry.

With Errol's fighting style I just wonder how long he would last & how long will he stay at welterweight?

Spence just needs to stay put at 147, get the fight with Thurman done ASAP. And keep angling toward fighting Crawford.

If Spence can beat Thurman and Crawford in the current welterweight scheme, he is absolutely in the conversation for top tier. Not easy fights to make, but he may need to just make some financial concessions to become king of the hill.
