I think Wladimir was the better all around fighter. People are deluded if they believe he lacked heart. Hard to say which brother would win in a head to head match but I would favour Wladimir. Vitali was tough and was quite defensively good when he chose to fight that way. He was also very awkward, hard to hit cleanly and had good stamina.
Who was better overall Wladmir or Vitali?

Good question!
For me, Wladimir Klitschko is better from the perspective of accomplishments. He has more and better accomplishments at heavyweight boxing overall, compared to Vitali Klitschko.
However, Vitali Klitschko in my opinion is the better head to head boxer. In that, I rank him number 1 and as the favorite to beat pretty much any heavyweight in history.
Otherwise, both had their own strengths and weaknesses. Wladimir Klitschko was the more powerful puncher, had the better jab, had the better mechanics and technique in his punching from a textbook perspective, had the slightly better footwork and defense.
Vitali Klitschko on the other hand, had the better chin / punch resistance, had the better punch output, had the better stamina, had a more unorthodox style, had the better combination punching and had the better mindset in being willing to let his hands go more frequently without trying to be 100% perfect all the time like Wladimir Klitschko (against Fury for example).Comment

Wlad was more fundamentally sound and skilled but at the HW division during modern times, one doesnt need to be all that skilled to succeed.
Vitali was the much better fighter despite being awkward and less skilled/coordinated.Comment

Even at the start of their careers and they had yet to lose I thought Vitali was the better brother. I saw huge flaws in Wlad and while with Stewards help he overcame many of his flaws he was never as good as Vitali.
Remember Wlad only got that spot in the Olympic team at super heavyweight because Vitali was suspended for doping. Wlad was meant to fight at heavyweight, he was forced to a lower weight to be able to get an Olympic spot on the team, as obviously he wasn't as good as Vitali then.
Wlad is the better athlete, his speed and power are on another level. Vitali on the hand is awkward looking with his style compared to the more fundamentally orthodox Wlad. So at first look it seems pretty clear Wlad was the better fighter.
But boxing is far more complex a sport than a guy being a better athlete and having better fundamentals. Where Vitali excelled other than size and durability is that he was simply a more complete and skilled fighter, he did a number of things better than Wlad that are not obvious to the untrained eye.
Vitali had better movement. Sure Wlad had quicker feet, but fast feet isn't the same as good movement. It's also when and where you move that defines how good your footwork is and Wlad's wasn't great in this regard, he moved back in straight lines far too much when pressed, while Vitali used more lateral movement. Look at their fights with Peter. Wlad spends a lot of the time backing up and so spent a lot of the time on the edge of the ring against the ropes. Vitali fought most of the fight in the center of the ring because he could continually turn Peter and keep the fight in the center.
Wlad didn't counter punch, he was too afraid to exchange in anyway to expose his chin. Vitali was a good counter puncher. He may have been slower but he had better reflexes than Wlad he could like Mayweather and RJJ employ a pull counter. His stance was one where he was leaning forward guard down, just like RJJ, he was baiting a trap with the low guard waiting for his opponent to throw a punch, where he would then lean back, slip the shot and then be in a perfect position to counter. Wlad never did this, he couldn't do it, pure and simple.
Vitali had greater punch out put and variety. He hit you with shots from odd angles and did so in volume. Wlad always had stamina issues but with his jab and grab style he learned to control the pace of fights. Vitali never had this issue he could set a pace few heavyweights could, let alone any heavyweight his size could.Comment

Vitali's fight against Sanders is a good example of how he used his size and movement to pummel Corrie eventually. He also took no less than half a dozen big lefts from Sanders and took them well. Wonder how Wlad would have done in his place.
Much respect to Corrie Sanders too. That guy had a chin on him.Comment

do u believe the german soccer team from wc 2014 would lose to 1990 wc team? wladimir was superior to the rest, he didn't fight weaker guys than lewis. u think past prime tyson has a chance against wladimir? or holyfield? wlad would be way too powerful for holyfield. tua is too short to do anything. wladimir dominated just like joe louis did, that's why many ppl think his era was weak. and if u ask me he is the best hw since ali.Comment
