Why Do People Say Calzaghe Was A Slapper or Featherfisted?

He has an above average KO ratio of 70% with 32 out of 46. Where did this rumour come from? His fast flurries looked like they grazed opponents but watch some of them in slow motion and you'll see they weren't merely slaps, but were actually pretty vicious that took thier toll on opponents.

He completely changed his style gradually over 10 years due to incredibly brittle hands. Going into the Eubank fight he was known as a pure power puncher, punching guys clean off their feet with one left hand etc.

In the last 5 or 6 years of his career he couldn't hit the bag or even spar. Ever. His hands would just go. So he threw lighter faster volume of shots.

      because of things like this...

he definitely has some super questionable hometown stoppages that improved his KO ratio.

Uhm because he was? He may have 32 stoppage wins but vast majority was 'British stoppages'. He was never a big hitter even before his hand injuries he had very few legitimate stoppage wins and none against anybody notable.

You're right, he had hands of absolute stone. When he landed it sent chills down the spine. Sickening power.

Calzaghe was one hell of a boxer, VERY UDERRATED imo. I've seen those "slaps" bust dudes up, bloody faces, and knock dudes out. You can say what you want but Joey Zags was no freaking joke and one of the most complete boxers of the past 20 years.

Exactly this. His hands were fragile but he still found a way to win every time.

Slappy or not he still punked Bernard Hopkins.

To be brutally honest I think that was the only fight I ever rooted for him.

Sure he was a different puncher at first but those injuries and brittle hands turned him into a slapper. Manfredo knockout was pure comic i still remember. It was as if the ref was payed to call a stoppage because he was looking for the first sign of danger to step in.

Calzaghe landing those girly slap combos cmon man Manfredo was not hurt at all. Bullsht british stoppage
