Comments Thread For: McGuigan Expects Mikey Garcia To Stop Linares in Middle Rounds

Former world champion and veteran promoter Barry McGuigan expects Mikey Garcia (37-0, 30 KOs) to topple Jorge Linares (43-3-, 27 KOs) - if the two lightweight champions battle later this year. The World Boxing Council recently ordered Garcia to make a mandatory defense of his WBC lightweight crown against Linares, who holds the WBA title and is also the WBC's Diamond champion.

Linares is an excellent boxer, but his recent wins have brought many people to slightly overrate him. I see the same outcome, Garcia by stoppage.

Garcia punch selection is unique and I see him defeating Linares.
Once Garcia builds an early lead, I see late stoppage.

I agree. Ppl forget he was TKO'd in round 1 and 2. So 1 early tko is not a fluke. He got TKO'd by Broners left over as well.

Yeah, and - especially - Garcia is neither Anthony Crolla nor Luke Campbell (or even Kevin Mitchell, who almost knocked Linares out as well before getting beaten himself).

The refurbishing of Linares' career has been going well thanks to well-chosen fights. As I said, he is a solid boxer but not elite.

Garcia hits too hard and Linares can be hit. I also think he would stop him.

Bad fight for Mikey only because the expectation is to wreck Lipinets. But, the dude is tough and undersold and if Garcia doesn't put him away easily, he looks bad.
