I guess I don't know UK laws at all, they might not have reasonable doubt. But it looks like there are several ways to prove reasonable doubt.

The friend admitting guilt, questionable ownership of iPad, and a collective inebriation could hurt the prosecution on their own merit.

Also things like first time offense and a lack of criminal record come into play (if applicable).

Any good lawyer can get a positive finding here. Kid walks with a suspended sentence (slap on wrist) at worst or a continued without a finding (you won).

The lawyers Sky uses probably bill so high the return isn't worth it for Sky even if they won. 5k, that's probably the low end of the lawyer fee. High end lawyers are billing 1.5k hour these days. 5k don't get you far.

All Sky is looking for is headlines. Believe it or not, but a lot of people tend to only read headlines. People read it, spread it around and it sticks --- they remember. I still remember a case from early file sharing days of some kid that got billed for 85k or etc for downloading mp3's on his grandma's computer. That story has to be 15 years old lol.

hes not being charged criminally, hes being sued by Sky.

Sky may not even care if they win, they want the story out there to scare others from not doing it. They can afford to spend much more on lawyers than this guy. He already signed some agreement saying hes going to pay them 5k along with an official apology. Thats what they really want and thats why they make the "fines" that low, because they know common folk can cough that up and will spend less just handing over the 5k with a forced apology they can use in their anti-piracy than what they would spend on fighting it. Then Sky can market themselves as being generous and forgiving if they stop pursuing the $85k they initially asked for.

If his friend was just pointing his iPad at the tv, then that's not directly ******ing the signal. To me, that's the equivalent of loads of people standing outside your window watching your tv in your living room.
I feel obliged to help this guy out a bit, even though I didn't watch his ******. This is about us all. To hell with Facebook and Sky. Cnts.

In Australia, Foxtel has an invisible number in the right corner of the screen that will tell them who's PPV it is being ******ed, they can filter the picture and see the number so there is no way of saying it wasn't you

free this dude up..boxing and all sporting events should be free on t.v like back in the days..besides 4k people watching the event only gained it more exposure they won't have bought the ppv that why they resorted to a crappy version of the fight..fûck sky

You post like you talk in movie dialogue.

I imagine George Clooney to be reading the bolded line.

“Then my friend started ******ing...” Bro stop...you took a risk for likes and followers and it didn’t pan out. Many gripes about Sky but both Haymon and Arum give us great boxing for free 99 and some still don’t support/promote it. Either way cong**** to this guy for taking a 26 USD stand for the world. Clearly there will be some financial casualties in the war to free boxing.
