Has there ever been a more lauded, yet poor fighter, than Andre Ward?

I like this thread. Andre Ward is one fighter who i really dislike. I hate his fkin boring azz style. It does nothing for me.

I laugh when people make it seem like he is such a cerebral fighter. He clinches excessively due to lack of inside game. That’s what it is. Droopy eyed mother***er id like to get a full swing on him .

The guy fought some bums when he was at his peak, lost to Kovalev (all the grown ups on here know and acknowledge that right?), and punched Kov in the sack in the second fight.

He's a decent fighter, but very over valued and bends the rules with his hugging and stuff.

Woulda loved to Andre Dirrell dismantle him in the super six.
Feel sorry for Dirrell, robbed against Froch and with all his talent never really got his career off the ground.

He's not a poor fighter. He was talented but his talent was overstated. He was one of the best in his generation but I don't see greatness with the guy and yes his style was awful and the fouls did detract from the Kessler or Kovalev 2 fight for me and obviously he got a gift in fight I.

I feel if he was from a different part of the world he'd be hated and ridiculed but it always seems he's had friends in the media and on HBO really pushing a pro Ward angle to enhance his reputation as a boring fighter who fought dirty.

Good summary of Ward this. His career was defintely helped along by some media hyping.

Kovalev 1: Should have had points deducted for excessive holding meaning Sergey would have won wide on the cards. It was a robbery.

ward was a world class fighter but he was overrated and hes retired now the divisions heating up. In another country he wouldnt have been able to get away with his fouls, he was protected in america. I thought he got found out in the first kovalev fight and wards gay cheerleader james prince paid off tony weeks off in the rematch to make sure it wouldnt happen again

Credit where credit is due, he has 1 good win = froch.

This is how ridiculous the sport is where you can manufacture 'stars' based on 1 or even 0 good wins.

Look at broner with his '4 weight world champion' status, beating up midgets, getting gift decisions (paulie, Ponce de leon) until he finally gets exposed for the hypejob he really is.

Ward is a skilled boxer, but is he 'elite'? i'll get called a hater and kkkovalev fan by all the fanboys but i honestly don't see it.

Potshot single jab, rushing in with the head and clinch / rinse & repeat all fight. If that's not one dimensional i don't know what is.

Let's not pretend a massive part of his game is his dirty tactics, constant clinching mixed in with lowblows, headbutts, elbows etc, and he gets away with it because hes ALWAYS the home fighter. Guy's like that will never fight away from home because you fight kessler in denmark you get DQ'd, you fight kovalev in Russia you lose a UD.
