It is very different, the fighter chooses that not the commission. The commission literally picked a former champion to get a soft touch (yet again) against someone who doesn't have a right to be anywhere near title contention and made him a contender. Anyone arguing for Rios to be in a title opportunity eliminator isn't thinkings straight. Sorry.

No different than Kovalev already having a fight scheduled and since he was #1 already, he asked the WBO to put the vacant title at stake. If you have a high rankings and have already scheduled a fight against another ranked fighter in the same organization, you are allowed to request this. The organization doesn't have to say yes, but why would the WBC say no to Garcia volunteering to put his ranking at stake against Rios? If Rios happens to beat Garcia, why shouldn't he get the #2 ranking?Comment

No, that's not what happened. Garcia was fighting Rios regardless. Since Garcia is #2 and next in line after Porter gets his shot and since Garcia was fighting a ranked WBC opponent, Garcia asked if he could put his status on the line in an eliminator, no different than Porter did with Granados.

Bro, so you are cool with Rios jumping from #20 something to #2 because he fought Garcia? So that means the other 20 something fighters more deserving get what "a pat in the back?" Dude call it what it is, Promoter influence and nothing more. Rios does not deserve a title shot, there is zero logic to making a case for it. Sorry to break it to you.Comment

Why would that upset us? When the champion fights #11 and loses, #11 jumps all the way to champion. Why would we lose sleep over that?

We couldn't care less about any of this. Why would we be cool or not cool? What we care about is the truth. So we are not cool with you saying Rios would be jumping from "#20 something to #2" when he'd really be jumping from #11 to #2.

If he beats Danny Garcia, then he's far more deserving of a shot than many who receive title shots.Last edited by turnedup; 01-03-2018, 02:21 PM.Comment

If he fights Porter, then he still would have to choose between Spence Jr and Garcia for December-February 2019 (possibly the WBA obligation would be coming due as well)Comment
