Comments Thread For: Kazuto Ioka Decides To Retire From Boxing at 28

Twenty-eight-year-old Kazuto Ioka, who won world titles in three separate weight classes, announced Sunday that he will hang up his gloves and retire from the ring. "I'm satisfied with myself because I could win in three classes, which is also the reason why I started boxing," Ioka told a press conference. In a message to his fans, he said, "I think I'm here now because of your support, and I want to express my greatest appreciation."

A bit alarming that you don't know Ioka. He's been a player in the lower weights for years.

Very good fighter and had a career that most boxers could only dream of having. Won titles in 3 divisions, reigned for a long time and unified a division against a badass in Yaegashi and went out as a champion.

Anything below 126 always catches my attention ...he was a very very good fighter and everyone must really give him an Applause that he knows when he wants to retire on his own terms... I wish you much success and sincerely hope he does not return. not many guys can retire on their own terms ... good luck champ...

The guy is a Star in Japan and made a few million from Boxing so should be set up for life.

I would say though that he should have moved up to Super Flyweight and have a Mega Fight with Naoya Inoue and then retire win or lose as he could have collected a huge last pay day from it.

Brilliant fighter and, as it appears, intelligent man too.

I can see why he retired, he was still a quality operator but there wasn’t much else he could’ve plausibly achieved. I couldn’t of seen him being a major player at 115, he could’ve maybe tried to unify 112 but the likes of Higa would be very hard fights for Ioka at this stage of his career. Enjoy retirement champ.

I'm only salty because that bum Amnat Ruenroeng stunk the place up so bad vs. Ioka that he got a point deducted and still got a score of 119-108! but word is they wanted Zoo Shiming to win the IBF flyweight title from him ( hehe Toprank didnt know Shiming would suck so bad!)

then you had Juan Fransico Estrada doing what Mickey Mouse Garcia is doing to Linares right now : ducking his mandatory Kazuto Ioka for the 'Super' WBA flyweight title to solidy and eliminate the regular ( supposedly ) and left the flyweight division, so we never got Ioka vs. Estrada in Japan...but Rung-Estrada is good too so I'll give 'La Gallina' a pass.

Anyways thanks champ, you are undefeated in my book.
