Comments Thread For: Spectacular 2017 TKOs "Boxing Is Dead" Nonsense

When the final bell rang on May 2nd, 2015, it may as well been the gong of the Undertaker as the highly anticipated but woefully unexciting super fight between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao signaled the end of boxing for the mainstream. And who could blame them for feeling that way? A fight that the world anticipated for a half a decade comes together and ends up being a one-sided exhibition that left just about everyone feeling like they had been hoodwinked and bamboozled. And what was left after Mayweather-Pacquiao?

It was a great year. Mayweather-McGregor was the pinnacle.

Boxing is my only sport but let’s not pretend like it’s some important sport.
I wouldnt say dead but it is close to it.

When ESPN is showing a girl softball game over a big boxing event, you know what time it is. People dont give a sht about Boxing and that is just the truth.

Boxing had a great year because Joshua and Saunders revived the British interest in boxing.

Mayweather vs McGregor was a one-time thing and didn't do anything for boxing outside of the fight itself. That fight actually helped the UFC more than anyone else. The UFC had its biggest year revenue-wise.

Canelo v. GGG - actually ended up hurting the sport because Vegas fights are now looked upon as corrupt fights that destroy the credibility of boxing and have now increased terrible stereotypes about the sport, especially whenever a fight is staged in Vegas.

I think the whole boxing is dead brigade is overt he top but calling 2017 spectacular is also over the top. The first half was promising, mainly due to the brits and the fights in Britain with AJ, Frampton, Bellew, Haye, Brook, Spence all doing their bit.

But the year's biggest fights, with the most on the line, mainly fizzled out into rubbish. Ward/Kov rematch was even more corrupt than the first fight and GGG/Canelo never caught fire the way a great MW bout should.

The welterweights were just sort of there, one fight each for a lot of the top guys.

It took till the end of the year for us to get a really good card, top to bottom in the super fly division and boy was that awesome but really, it's not enough.

No wonder too many fighters are content fighting once a year nowadays.
This ****** article never want to address it, like they always do.
Fans which included the ones in the media are so easy to please.
The writer even mentions the circus fight as if it's something this sport was proud of having.
Adonis hasn't done **** in years.
            Lara fought another nobody.
Spence and Swift are now 1fight/year fighters.
Their next fights are against undeserving fighters.
Mickey is fighting a nobody instead of Easter.
By the time top fighters finally face each other, they're plague with injuries like we saw in the Brook/Spence fight.
This sport is okay with fights happening late.
As if things are always perfect when nobody even knows what's in store for tomorrow or the next day.

You had a little bit of everything this year. The HWs put on a good show. We had two good MW fights. The Ward/Kovalev rematch was great. The Chocolatito/Rungvisai rematch ended in a dramatic fashion. Heck, even the fight that was supposed to be a joke turned out to be entertaining.

The only disappointment was the Lomachenko/Rigondeaux fight. Nothing about that fight was satisfying.

Boxing is alive more than ever, the only competition is the UFC and now they are jumping on the Boxing train. Boxing in 2018 is going to be Greater than 2017 in my view. Canelo/GGG #2, Joshua/Wilder, Thurman/Spence, Garcia/Loma. Lets hope & pray

It was a great year for boxing. But you will still see a negative Nancy complaining here and there regardless.
