Naoya Inoue's handlers had difficulty finding an opponent willing to fight him Saturday night.

But why move up so soon? I don't get it. Let the Nery-Yamanaka rematch at 118 happen. The Rungvisai-Estrada fight is in February, so the winner will be ready to fight Inoue by June. If Inoue actually wants to start building the legacy of a SUPERSTAR (and future ATG), you don't simply abandon the chance to win and claim the very recent lineage of the #1 POUND FOR POUND FIGHTER IN THE WORLD because of a mere six month inconvenience in your schedule!

I mean, who says the #1 P4P guy will ever emerge in Inoue's division again his entire career? This could be a once in a career chance!

If I was promoting Inoue, the plan would be simple and obvious: Fight the Rungvisai-Estrada winner in June, then fight the Nery-Yamanaka winner in September, then fight Tete in December. Win those three fights, and I would make Inoue the clear favorite in all three, and Inoue is already battling Vasyl Lomachenko for the #1 pound-for-pound spot in the world by the age of 25, and poised to be the next Manny Pacquiao-level superstar in the sport if he can continue winning and jumping weight class.

But now, if he skips the Rungvisai-Estrada winner and jumps to 118 first, even if he still beats Nery and Yamanaka, it could be years before he reaches the same heights. I mean, I guess with how weak boxing is right now in terms of guys fighting each other, Inoue would already have the second or third best resumé in boxing if he beat Yamanka/Nery and Tete, even without beating the Rungvisai-Estrada winner. That's how lacking modern boxing is in good resumés, due to all the ducking and political divides. However, if Inoue actually wants to make a statement, and make his resumé undeniable to all the fans out there who either don't pay attention to smaller boxers, or hate foreign lighter skinned boxers, then the only way to do that is to actually beat either the guy who beat the #1 P4P guy, or, if Estrada is able to beat Rungvisai, then the guy who beat him.

I don't understand it. Inoue can still make the weight. It's just six more months. For the biggest superfly fight in years, and the jumping off point for both legacy and superstardom, why not wait six months and make that fight for June? I'm sure HBO would pay for that fight. And the fans really want it!
