Easter is worth maybe $100k for that fight. Lipnets is also basically unknown. 150k for him.
Not sure if you read the article, but what he's saying is the total purse offered wasnt big enough to satisfy both fighters. Mikey will get $1.5 - 2 million for Lipnets. I believe its closer to $2 million based on comments made in the media about GBP and Linares falling through.
Easter would've likely wanted a minimum of $1 million to fight Garcia.
I imagine Showtime wasn't going to pay them $3 million for a main event, then have to build out the rest of the card. Pushing costs closer to $4 million for the fighters alone.
I don't think Showtime (or any premium cable card) has had any non-PPV cards with an aggregate purse north of $3 million on a premium cable channel in the last 2-3 years.
The only non-PPV boxing cards that were north of that $3 million number in recent memory were the PBC network TV cards. Those were aberrations to the traditional model.
Just my takeaway. I don't like it, but I understand what's going on. I also think that $2 million number is the reason Garcia has to fight in San Antonio. They're trying to see what type of draw he really is (like his family claims he can be). If the live gate doesn't do well (north of 15k tickets), I expect to see his purse drop back to the $1 - 1.5 million range.Comment

What is it with guys named "Garcia" and cherry-picking fights. Seems like every Garcia in boxing should be named Cherry...
