In this 2 fight per year era, fighters need to string together a couple of compelling fights in a row before they even think about being a "superstar". Very few fighters are stringing together compelling fights. Canelo and Joshua are really the only name fighters. Everybody else is turning down good fights and talking about what they are worth. I don't care to hear about a boxer's bank account, nor do I receive dividends when they fight. Just get in the ring and fight. If it's a compelling fight, I'll watch. Garcia you aren't a superstar, and on your current path, you won't be.Last edited by wrecksracer; 12-28-2017, 10:16 AM.Comment

Fighting these undefeated guys who have fought nobodies seems to be a good way to sell ****ty fights lately.Comment

What does a fight between them really bring in? No one knows who Easter is, and Mikey isn't exactly a household name yet. He's earning $3.5M for Lipinets which isn't bad, but I can't imagine he'd earn much more for Easter.Comment

Easter would've likely wanted a minimum of $1 million to fight Garcia.
I imagine Showtime wasn't going to pay them $3 million for a main event, then have to build out the rest of the card. Pushing costs closer to $4 million for the fighters alone.
I don't think Showtime (or any premium cable card) has had any non-PPV cards with an aggregate purse north of $3 million on a premium cable channel in the last 2-3 years.
The only non-PPV boxing cards that were north of that $3 million number in recent memory were the PBC network TV cards. Those were aberrations to the traditional model.
Just my takeaway. I don't like it, but I understand what's going on. I also think that $2 million number is the reason Garcia has to fight in San Antonio. They're trying to see what type of draw he really is (like his family claims he can be). If the live gate doesn't do well (north of 15k tickets), I expect to see his purse drop back to the $1 - 1.5 million range.Comment

If Easter wins, he might as well test the waters @ 140! Nobody @ 135 is going to challenge him for his title. He's Tall, he can punch, and he doesn't fill up stadiums! I'd like to see Easter face the winner of the Barthelemy vs. Relikh rematch!Comment

Not sure if you read the article, but what he's saying is the total purse offered wasnt big enough to satisfy both fighters. Mikey will get $1.5 - 2 million for Lipnets. I believe its closer to $2 million based on comments made in the media about GBP and Linares falling through.

Garcia hasn’t confirmed what he’ll make to challenge Lipinets. Multiple industry insiders have informed BoxingScene.com that his total compensation package will be roughly $3.5 million, a concerted effort to keep Garcia affiliated with Al Haymon’s Premier Boxing Champions for at least one more fight.
That’s a substantial purse for a non-pay-per-view bout, but it was considered a necessary incentive to keep Garcia from facing Linares in a fight that could’ve been broadcast by HBO, Showtime’s premium cable rival. Regardless, it won’t prohibit Garcia from re-engaging in negotiations with Oscar De La Hoya’s promotional company for a subsequent bout with Linares, assuming he and Linares win their upcoming matches.
