There are a bunch of different ways to judge P4P lists. Some people insist on using official results. I don't. I think Kovalev won the first fight with Ward, and didn't get a fair fight in the second. Although he may have lost the second fight even if Ward kept it clean.

One of the reasons I am not a Ward fan is that he was one of the dirtiest fighters in the business - but didn't need to be. I can understand when limited fighters try to use dirty tactics. They have to if they want to win. Ward was just a dirty son of a bitch.

With Ward now retired, Kovalev is one of the best fighters around. I'd probably have him top 5.

I agree with you! I thought Krusher won the first fight!

With Ward and Mayweather retired The Bone Krusher is still in my top 10 P4P but not in the top 5. JMHO!

Who are you and what have done with the real Luilun?

        I actually agree...

The manner in which he quit in the rematch makes it difficult for me to rate him highly. He needs to show me more.

Correct. Kovalev's resume is and was average at best. I said that a million times before Ward fight was even considered.

His skills are pretty good though. He made some bonehead decisions in the first Ward fight, and wasn't ready for the 2nd fight, however I was very impressed by some of the things he did. He outboxed Ward for large portions of the first fight. The glaring deficiencies he had was inability to break away from clinches and from effectively attacking Ward in a corner.

Agreed, I like his skills also, but I think he has suspect durability and punch resistance. I was very surprised by how he matched Ward skill for skill in the first fight, but something always told me he wasn't the mentally toughest fighter, so I was never quite 100% sold on him, as skills alone can only get you so far in this sport.

I think Bivol is going to light him up, HBO are building towards that fight.
