He negotiated with weight with Ward but Ward refused to fight at 164. I never thought the Ward fight was a serious negotiation on either side. He fought Canelo at 160 after a long disagreement about weight. So yes he did negotiate with the two guys. He was successful at getting a fight arranged with Canelo and the Ward fight fell through. So what's your beef?

155 limit is not middleweight.

Please try and get your head around this: So far as the WBC, WBO, IBF and WBA are concerned 155 is not a limit, it's a catchweight.

Before Cotto fought Geale the WBC put out a statement saying that the limit for the fight would be 160lbs, and if Geale came in over 157 but no higher than 160 Cotto would have to fight him or be stripped of the title.

When the WBC ordered Canelo to fight GGG they stated that the official weight limit would be 160, whether a catchweight was agreed or not.

Golovkin could have signed a contract agreeing to a 155 catchweight with Canelo, then torn it up and come in at 160. Canelo would have had to fight him or forfeit the title.

He may have had to pay a financial penalty to Canelo, if he signed up for one in the contract, but that would have been between the two of them and had no bearing on the weight limit for the fight.

But he did sign a contract to fight at 154, then fail to make it and come in at 155.
