If he fought Kovalev and won the title, then he could still fight Bivol and make even more money then. That would also be betting on himself. So what you said does not explain why he fought Bivol instead of Kovalev, when the same logic would hold true if he did it in the opposite order. And since the only fight that is guaranteed is this next one, it doesn't explain why he took the lower payday first. What if he loses?

He might have to sign an extension with Main Events in order to get Kovalev. You think they would give him their best fighter with a possibility of them leaving?
