He's a quitter. I thought that when it happened (I watched it live) and think it now. For some reason, Duran has become overrated AF as time has passed. He was never all that...certainly not IMO. Listen, there people who know boxing a lot more than I do who rave about Duran...but I never liked him. In or out the ring.

you are aware that he is universally considered the best lightweight of all time right? The guy was already a hall of famer before he ever set foot in the ring with sugar ray.

Why do people keep bringing up that Kell had an injury when he quit. When someone repeatedly punches you in the face and brakes your eye socket that is not considered and injury. He quit because he couldn't take Spence punching him in the same face that Spence broke. Brook didn't trip and injure his eye, his eye was broken by Spence.

So what do y’all think about Roberto Duran since he quit?

Definitely a stain on his legacy. But unlike Brooke or Rigondeaux, he was already an ATG (lightweight) fighting above his prime weight. His resume after No Mas arguably redeemed his reputation somewhat.

He's not overrated IMO.

Duran spent months after the first fight ballooning in weight,drinking, smoking cigars and ****ing whores he just wanted to go lay down somewhere rather than keep chasing SRL around the ring

Both Brook and Rigondeaux are dumb for jumping up those two weight classes when they didn't have too.

Guy was so good and innovative in the boxing ring that he was knocking out 160 pound fighters.

Everyone can quit. It's probably better to quit. Not sure why there's a huge mentality over boxing ring and willingness. Either the fighter manages their risk okay, or I'm sure they're safe to understand that it's not going to go their way and therefore put an end to it. It's like being a poker player and thinking, maybe I should bluff my way out of this situation (with all the heart I have) but in a terrible spot that you'd be called by any pro and lose all your chips due to will & not rationality.

Sure we can all point at some hero behavior in the sport, someone like Gatti. But let's not mistake it that he's, in this example at least, not anywhere near Duran's fighting and boxing ability.

Duran redeemed himself by capturing the jr. middleweight and middleweight titles and becoming the 2nd fighter after Jack Johnson to fight in a span of five decades.

Only his haters or casuals harp on about the irrelevant Leonard rematch.

Exactly!! Why would you help two weight classes if anything you should meet in the middle. And as for rig. He is 37 why would you take a fight your too old for and have to move up 2 weight classes for. It was ****** people talk about loma should be top p4p man please not fighting a 37 year old smh

I defended Ezekiel after he quit, but these comments make me less sympathetic in both the GGG and Spence fights. Both he and Rigo quit. Trying to excuse one and not the other is lame. In the Spence fight, he was the bigger guy in his home town in front of 27k of his fans and he was made to quit... Just doesn't seem like the right guy to hear from criticizing another quitter. Ultimate pot calling the kettle black situation.

Save the hypocrisy and tough talk for another day. Do you know what it's like to be punched in the face by the hardest hitting welterweight on earth WITH a broken ortibal bone WITH two more rounds to go? Because I don't... and neither do you for that matter.

I'm not a Kell Brook fan but he's right, he ACTUALLY had something broken and risked serious injury even blindness by continuing.

It has now been confirmed that Rigo only had a bruised hand. No comparison. Have a good day tough guy :rollseyes:
