Ricardo Lopez was possibly the best technician of his era. His form was flawless and always textbook. He had every punch in the book, his defense was very nice, and he had a traditional heart of a lion. The only thing that holds him back is his lack of opposition. His best opponent was Rosendo Alvarez, who arguably beat him the first time. I give him credit for going out and winning the rematch, but i'm not sure if the other mexican greats would've been as troubled with a fighter of Alvarez's calibre. Don't get me wrong. I view Rosendo is a very good fighter.

I rate Lopez as one of the greatest fighters to ever come out of mexico, and that's saying a lot. However, i'd personally rank...

    Salvador Sanchez
    Julio Cesar Chavez
    Carlos Zarate
    Ruben Olivares

...ahead of Ricardo. Also, some might say that Vicente Saldivar and Miguel Canto are better, but i haven't seen much of them, so i can't have any input on that.

Like i stated previously, i view Rosendo Alvarez as a very good fighter. I simply think the aforementioned fighters wouldn't have as much trouble with Alvarez as Finito did, on a pound for pound basis.

The biggest knock on Lopez is that he never fought Carbajal or Gonzales, but he did have a fight lined up with Gonzales and Gonzales lost to Saman Sorjaturong one of the greatest Thai fighters of all time. Lopez blew Sorjaturong out in two rounds earlier in there careers.

Lopez also beat Rosendo Alvares who went on to establish himself as agreat little guy in his own right. Im a huge Carbajal fan and while Carbajal was the bigger name he was not in Alvarez class in my opnion.

The best little guy of the modern era.

            I agree!

Ricardo Lopez is 'probably'/arguably the greatest mexican boxer. How many fighters do you know retired with a zero on the L column?

His Destruction of Ala Villamor ( PAC's fave/idol boxer) broke my heart, i was stunned! that Left uppercut was vicious and it was a delayed reaction. Villamor drop 2 secs after Lopez landed the uppercut.

Lopez is definitely one of Mexico's best. He is a complete fighter with the best defense. Somebody here mentioned like you are watching a surgeon doing a brain surgery, I would say that it's more likely of a Coroner doing an autopsy!
