  • Comments Thread For: Bob Arum Sound Off, Drops Heavy Bombs on HBO's Peter Nelson

Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum explained, in great detail, why his company is in much stronger position since going forward with their decision to part ways with HBO earlier this year - and then sign a multi-year exclusive content deal with ESPN. Arum believes Peter Nelson, the head of HBO Sports, was holding his company back from making certain fights - like this Saturday's clash between Vasyl Lomachenko and Guillermo Rigondeaux.

      Arum on point here.

HBO Boxing has been a disaster since Peter Nelson took over and HBO Boxing ratings are at an all time low.

Nelson only got the job in the first place because he's ***ish and comes from a well connected ***ish family.

I think Bob is the only one that is even aware of HBO's card on Saturday night. The fans couldn't care less about it. The only time I see the HBO card being talked about is when Bob is providing free promotion for it instead of discussing Loma-Rigo.

          Is Arum wrong ?

Minus HBO PPVs which is about 50/50 as far as good fights

HBO under Nelsons watch has gone to sh.it

This isn't new and Arum crying about it is laughable he's put on cards numerous times on the same date and time as other networks and rival promoters. When he was on HBO he put on cards when Showtime already had the date hell he's aired cards head to head against PPVs from rival promoters. But now that he had the date first and HBO is putting on a card he's crying? Stop being a hypocrite Arum you have done the same to PBC, to Showtime to other promoters who had PPVs ect.

Bob was angry that Nelson wouldn't allow him to showcase his mismatches on his network anymore.

TBH, I like HBO the way it is now. We get good fights, and we get mini tournaments like a Superfly. ESPN will just become another Top Rank showcase.

Arum does not care about boxing at all either... he only cares about his pockets getting fatter!!! he's only complaining because the competition means less money for him!!! I see him paying his fighters less to make up for the losses and to keep his steady income coming not being faced by the circumstance!!! then again... all promoters are in it for the money!!! they all try to ruin each other's business in the hopes of being the last man standing with the entire cake!!!

Lets be honest here. Lomachenko wanting the fight is the reason this fight is happening. This wasn't Arum's or his matchmakers idea like he's trying to to credit for.

exactly. He's basically admitting that ESPN deal allows him to air whatever he wants. As a fan I don't like the sound of that get ready for some trash cards on ESPN. Much rather the network having some sort of say in the quality of the matches. Isn't that the complain fans had with PBC? Arum doesn't get a pass from me for doing the same thing. Look at the sat card other then the main event every fight on there is utter garbage. And Arum just told you he's the one in control not ESPN so Arum in the one to blame.
