  • Comments Thread For: WBC Investigating Adonis Stevenson and Lack of Mandatories

According to World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaiman, his organization is investigating the ongoing situation with WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson and his lack of mandatory defenses. At the moment, Eleider Alvarez has been the mandatory challenger, for two years, to Stevenson's title. Stevenson (29-1, 24 KOs) and Alvarez (23-0, 11 KOs) are both advised by Al Haymon and promoted by Yvon Michel of GYM - but for one reason or another a deal has never come together for them to fight each other.

The author of this article should be fired. Kovalev's HBO contract expired before the purse bid.

That was a fact that never seems to get mentioned. Kudos for pointing it out again, i blame kovalev firmly for that fight not happening, the WBC tried to make this fight happen by listening to Team Kov. I would listen to NO excuses for fan boys on here or in the media.

"We are addressing this matter. It's not 4 years [since Stevenson made a mandatory] and Kovalev hurt the process as well but it's unacceptable to continue. WBC is ruling soon," stated Sulaiman.

What the hell are you going to do about it Sulaiman?! strip the 'lineal' champ 'Superman' Stevenson?! HA?! like the currupt Ringmagazine?! but now they got tha champ back to #1. spot in their rankings?! why is everyone hating on Stevenson?!

And the haters will blame Adonis -- not that they even care about his current mandatory (Eleider Alvarez) because they rather see Badou Jack get KTFO but they takes shots at any opportunity they get.

Don't blame Adonis for this! The crocked WBC let him get away with this for years. The WBC could have given him the choice to fight his mandatories years ago or lose the belt but they didn't so the onus is on the WBC, not Adonis Stevenson.

I doubt they'll do something to Chickenson, but at least they should remove Alvarez from the #1 contender spot.

Am blaming both, since November 2013 he hasn't fought any mandatory, that is a bit sad. Was there no willingness from the other ranked boxers to jump over alvarez? Why didn't the WBC look at this situation two years ago? So many questions to ask.

Actually, from what everyone said at the time - including Stevenson's own people - Duva was in the middle of negotiating a brand new multi-fight HBO deal for Kovalev.

I understand her position for pulling out, but then she should have never asked for the mandatory order to begin with.

Yvon Michel claimed that Duva used the WBC order as leverage to get Kovalev a lucrative multi-fight deal and never intended to do the fight, which may be true.

And keep in mind, the WBC ordered more than one purse bid.

Regardless, even Mayweather never went that long without some type of mandatory defense - like Robert Guerrero.
