Yes, usually the winner has a higher tally, but that’s not how boxing matches are scored. If they were, they’d do away with judges and just use Compubox.Comment

and maybe those punch counters should be the ones deciding, since so many judges have issues.Comment

There are a couple of problems with your idea. A fighter can have a couple of high-punch rounds and outscore his opponent who barely outpunches him in a greater number of rounds. That’s not fair. Also, punch stats do not take punch effectiveness into account. This is a very big issue. Not to mention, there are other factors in boxing scoring, such as ring generalship and defense to be taken into account.Comment

I don’t see a movement to have the old system replaced by a new Compubox system based on total punches landed. Lol

since we both agree the winner usually lands more, we both must acknowledge those rare fights. were one guy landed 100 punches to none within 4 rds and failed to land anymore. all the while his opponent came on like a beast down the stretch........Comment

Because cottos ass was getting repeatedly lit up, rocked, put on ***** street and smashed into the ropes and his offence did nothing to Ali?Comment

It’s never that lopsided, but it can easily happen over the course of twelve rounds. One guy lands an average of an extra five punches over four rounds, while the other lands an average of an extra two for eight rounds. The final tally favors the first guy, but the other guy should, by all rights, win the fight. And, again, we’re not even taking punch effectiveness, a major factor, into consideration.
as for scoring d and ring gen.....it still boils down to punches LANDED. if they dont land, it should reflect in the scoring. hence, crediting the d.
minus any kd's or uncontested flurries, a power punch is just a punch.
maybe ali did deserve the win by landing 21 %. i have yet to see it and +24 isnt that much.Comment
