There are a couple of problems with your idea. A fighter can have a couple of high-punch rounds and outscore his opponent who barely outpunches him in a greater number of rounds. That’s not fair. Also, punch stats do not take punch effectiveness into account. This is a very big issue. Not to mention, there are other factors in boxing scoring, such as ring generalship and defense to be taken into account.

They should try a modification to the Judge's scorecard.

They should add 1/3 scoring for each minute of each round, and then whichever fighter wins 2/3 or more of each round gets the score of 10.

I find it's much easier to score a fight accurately if you break down each round into 3rds.

Cotto fell in the 'diva trap' about 5 / 6 years ago.

I think he switched trainers too much, became difficult to manage and his overall focus on being competitive / hungry with the very best was lost.

He was a great fighter, but I honestly believe he could have achieved more. He put himself on par with Manny, Floyd etc (and with dedication could have been mentioned in the same sentence as them) but he started to believe he was better than his actual level was as that time.

Let it go, man. All they care about is "who landed more" when it's their favorite fighters, like Manny.

            But they're not even consistent.

Against Jacobs: "Jacobs lost because Golovkin's jab is like a power punch" (ignoring all the while that Jacobs was tentative but outboxing G in at least 6 rounds scored individually)

Against Canelo: "Canelo won that, all Golovkin did was jab" (what happened to "his jab is like a power punch"?)

Against Rungvisai 1: "Choco won that because he landed more" (ignoring Choco getting put on his ass, bloodied and bullied for at least 6 rounds)

Yet...against Mayweather: "I don't care what the CompuBox stats say, Manny won that/Don't just go by CompuBox"

he has been a very overrated boxer, but the guy gave us more than a decade of a his life and put his health on the line for our entertainment.

if you weren't a punk you'd respect and admire him.

I agree, but the thread title did make me chuckle.
