Almost dying against chisora and punching thin air against helenius who trained for 5 days and was completely gassed for the whole fight.wtf that got to do with this article? Bellew is a light heavy trying his luck for extra cash before he retires at the money division was roy jones a heavyweight? Harrison won gold at 2000 olympics so hype was built of the fact he was the first uk fighter to win gold and whyte gave aj a run for his money in his only defeat wouldnt say he was hyped but deserves a top ten spot in division for beating chisura helinus allen lawinson
Tan since the defeat respect were its due
Chisora just got beat by a nobody which proves how limited he is.
Whyte done nothing, except prove he's c grade domestic level bum.
But somehow you still buy the hype.Comment

Agree with Cotto on this one. Tito shouldn't blow up his or Jr's ego. Top fighters from any country get to where they are mostly because of their talent. I say mostly because sometimes you have cases where they'll force a guy to the top but it's sink or swim. Cotto was one of those great fighters from Puerto Rico that earned his spot and remained there because of his raw talent.Comment

vargas was hyped but couldnt deliver. probably very naturally talented as his trainers said he drank and partied a lot affecting his training.
his "win" over wright was a farce. He was heavily hyped by HBOs and the judges bought into that. That decision screwed winky big time and sent him to ESPN land for years until mosley accepted a fight with him.Comment

If you think Arum signed Cotto because of Trinidad, your fooling yourself. Explain to me why Arum hasn't signed every single Puerto Rican boxer he can find. You laid 2 facts. However, saying Trinidad paved the way for Cotto is purely an opinion. Your logic is based on your personal experience - But as I said, making such a statement assumes that everyone who watches, purchases PPV, goes to a Cotto fight, does so because of Trinidad. If you think about it you will see how false the notion is. I'm Puerto Rican, never was a fan of Trinidad (watched his fights because I'm a fan of boxing), always felt he was overrated. When I watch Cotto, I don't have a single memory of Trinidad, I'm not driven by nostalgia of Trindad, I would watch or Purchase any PPV that Cotto's on, and it would have nothing to do with Trinidad. Boxing is a national sport for Puerto Rico, if someone rises up to the levels that Cotto has, or looks to be on that road, Puerto Ricans will support that fighter, and it has nothing to do with Trinidad. Why don't you give credit to Don King for realizing there was an untapped market? Trinidad didn't decide to fight on PPV. If you want to say that Trinidad was the first Puerto Rican fighter to show an ability to sell PPV, that's completely fine, but again I think some people speak with out knowing the definition of what they say.Trinidad is the first fighter from PR to be a successful ppv star =Fact. Trinidad was filling up msg vs Whitaker, joppy and Hopkins before cotto ever fought there =fact. And if you don't think arum noticed and followed suit with cotto, then you're fooling yourself. With that being said, cotto obviously had to do his own part in order to he a success and draw crowds. It wouldnt just happen because he was from PR and was coming in after titos generation. I myself went from attending Trinidad fights at msg to then going to every fight cotto had at msg And a large part of the reason I began attending cotto fights was because of the impact and crowd that tito drew in the late 90s and early 2000s.
Paved the way - This expression alludes to paving a road so it is easier to travel on.
So what your implying is that Trinidad made it easier for people to buy Cotto PPV fights. He made it easier for People to be fans of Cotto. C'mon, you have to see how silly that is.Last edited by KnickTillDeaTh; 12-02-2017, 12:55 PM.Comment

where did I say that arum signed cotto because of tito or used the words paved the way? I didn't. My original post merely stated that tito was the first fighter from PR to become a ppv star (which king does deserve credit for) and said that his successful crowds at msg is in part what caused arum to take notice. Arum was then able to take it to another level with cotto because he made cotto a staple there. Not sure how that's diminishing cotto. If we were referring to Chavez success drawing crowds and selling ppvs in the 80s and 90s and saying how that helped to market Mexican fighters later on such as barrera, morales, and now canelo, would that be wrong? That seems to be coming knowledge and I'm sure those fighters would agree. Promoters use trial and error, they see what works and where it works and handle business. No secret there. And btw, there's an article from a few yrs back where arum said one of his biggest regrets was not signing Trinidad. He had the chance to and said he wasn't interested. Then saw how big tito became and said he felt he could've done a better job. He made sure not to miss that opportunity with cotto. I can send you the link if you know how to read Spanish. If you think Arum signed Cotto because of Trinidad, your fooling yourself.
