Comments Thread For: Spence Thinks Thurman Will Make Him Wait Until 2019 for Fight

NEW YORK Errol Spence Jr. has no choice but to take Keith Thurman seriously. That's how Spence is approaching what he heard Thurman state last week about it being "more realistic" for their fight to take place in 2019 than next year. Spence wants to fight Thurman much sooner than that, but the unbeaten IBF welterweight champion can't force the undefeated WBA/WBC champion into the ring.

He said he'd fight me when I'm ready. Look, honestly im not ready.

        Classic lines.

If Thurman had more confidence this would be a great fight. Oh well, on to dreaming about Spence-Crawford.

I see 2019 as well. Thurman needs a tune-up in Feb/Mar. If he fights again in 2018, he probably does a rematch with either Porter or Garcia. Winner of that fight should get Spence in 2019, though if Danny Garcia should pull out a win, I don't see him stepping up to fight Spence, ever.

Abner Mares , Leo Santa Cruz & Orlando Salido are way more deserving of a Top 10 Pound for Pound spot then Errol Spence Jr. & Vasyl Lomachencko.

They are 4 Time World Champions in 2 to 3 divisions with a Top 10 Pound for Pound opponent victory on their resumes, victories over Chemo Moreno , Carl Frampton & Vasyl Lomachencko all three guys were ranked top 10 pound for pound at the time of their fights.

Errol Spence Jr. is only a 1 time Champion in only 1 division who hasn't even defended his title yet & he has 0 Top 10 P4P victories on his poor resume. Enough is enough quit with the Racism & Bias against Mexican Fighter's. I am out for justice and will lead the resistance untill this is fixed.

He had no choice but to fight Thurman. PBC was bleeding money and could no longer get away with mismatches and boring fights. Haymon could no longer protect his undefeated champions in 2017. Some sacrifices had to be made.

Spence would not be my 3rd fight back from injury.....

I actually have to agree with Thurman on this one. Coming back from injury I would have a ring rust removal fight, then fight someone else then Porter and Spence in 2019. Something in that order. Thurman could fight someone ranked in top 20 in first fight back, Jesse Vargas second fight, Porter third then Spence 2019.
