Sergey Kovalev's return from his second defeat to Andre Ward was a success in and out of the ring. According to ratings released Wednesday by Nielsen Media Research, a peak audience of 900,000 viewers tuned in to HBO to watch Kovalev knock out Vyacheslav Shabranskyy in the second round Saturday night in The Theater at Madison Square Garden. An average audience of 869,000 saw Kovalev-Shabranskyy, which didn't have much time to build an audience because Kovalev demolished his overmatched opponent so quickly.

Very good ratings. Hopefully this will convince Beterbiev or Jack to fight Kovalev in the main event in march, with Bivol vs Barrera on the undercard. Then winner of Kovalev-Beterbiev can fight Stevenson, while Bivol gets one more seasoning fight against someone no worse than Marcus Browne's quality (maybe Yarde). Then, winner of Kovalev-Stevenson takes on winner of that at the end of the year to unify all 4 titles by the end of 2018, as it should be. Every other sport operates with a new season every year. Boxing should be the same. All the "teams" are starting with one title each at the beginning of 2018, and by the end there should only be one champion standing. Then the "season" in 2018 can be about how long that champ can hold onto all 4 belts while facing all the new top guys, and whoever rebuilds themselves the fastest out of the three titlists who didn't win in 2018.

Make it happen HBO! Let's goooo!

Also why hasn't Main Events gone back to the WBC to make Kovalev the mandatory for Stevenson again? I know they Haymon forced them to pull out of the purse bid last time by moving it up months before Duva had funding or Kovalev's final HBO fight on his contract had taken place, but now Duva has better financing, so why not give it another shot? What is there to lose? If Haymon tries to ruin the fight again, and finds another clever way to do it, then Duva can leave the purse bid again without losing a thing. But if the purse bid goes through and she wins it, then Kovalev-Stevenson either happens, or Stevenson loses the belt, both of which should be the goal of both Duva and every boxing fan who is interested in the 175 division that Stevenson has been holding up and basically ruining for the last 4 years.

Make it happen HBO! Make it happen Duva! The WBC made Kovalev Stevenson's mandatory before, they will do it again! What's the downside to trying?

      Kovalev-Beterbiev and Bivol-Barrera in March
      Kovalev-Stevenson and Bivol-Jack in July
Winners fight for all 4 titles in November or December

LETS GO BOXING!!! Kovalev and Jack are 34 years old. Stevenson is 40. Beterbiev is 32. All but Bivol are either already past prime ages, or on the brink like Beterbiev. Meaning, the time is now. LETS GOOOOO!! 175 would be the #1 division in boxing if not for Stevenson holding it up. Fix it WBC!

That’s a dip compared to what Kovalev was doing before.

Well, Shabranskyy is not Ward, obviously.

Solid Numbers! This is just the climate of boxing here in America. Anything from 500K-1.1 Million Views is a win for Boxing since Casuals don't give a **** about the sport if Mayweather or McGregor name is not attached to it which is sad but that is the truth

For a fighter coming off of two losses against an unknown fighter who had been stopped by someone on the undercard, this is good. If you’re exciting and deliver KOs, people will watch.
