No, he was a decent opponent that helped him adapt to the extra weight of the LHW division. Brand was a cherry pick, and Ward went the distance with him. Without fouling, Ward would go the distance against Brian Sutherland.

Sullivan Barrera was 17-0 (12 KO). He had over 300 amateur fights. He was ranked #4 in the world. He had a height, reach and big size advantage, having spent a portion of his amateur career at Heavyweight. Was at Cruiserweight for his first seven pro fights.

He also TKO'd a man who, in most Americans eyes, was a shoe-in for the Hall of Fame. So confident were they, they were ready to give this fighter ATG status after only a couple of defences of his paper title. He was going to bash up the other top fighters of his division and not break a sweat. People mortgaged their houses to bet on him. For those who don't know, I'm talking about Jeff Lacy. The hype alone that surrounded this man at one point turns this in to an Elite win. It must do. The Americans were sure of it.
