The Theater, Madison Square Garden, New York City - For the vacant WBO light heavyweight title, Sergey Kovalev (31-2-1, 27 KOs) demolished Vyacheslav Shabranskyy (19-2, 16 KOs) in two rounds after three hard knockdowns. Kovalev was returning from back to back defeats at the hands of Andre Ward, who in the process captured the Russian boxer's IBF, WBA, WBO world titles. The WBO title became vacant when Ward retired from boxing a few months ago.
