He's a popular name, big in sports. He was extremely popular before the Mayweather fight.

Although it was a joke of a fight to be made, it was always going to be made once it was a realistic option. Too much cash to be made.

MMA fans wanted to see a MMA guy beat a boxer. Lot's of MMA fans dislike Connor and wanted to see him beaten.
Boxing fans who wanted to see a boxer beat a MMA guy, as well as people who dislike Floyd and wanted to see him beaten.
Casuals of both sports/guys who actually thought it would be competitive, hardcores who knew it wouldn't but wanted to watch the 'event'.

Two big names. All the ingredients were there. Connor's personality is great selling point. Right fight at the right time for both guys as far a money was concerned.

How in the world did Andreas hale become a sports journalist?
Being called out by de la Hoya, horn, pacquiao and malinaggi do not make you the biggest star in boxing. Anyone who considers him to be isn't a boxing fan.
The question- how has mcgregor become the most called out, lowest risk, highest reward fighter to be called out by limited or over the hill fighters? That's a valid question but it kind of answers itself doesn't it.

Why are idiots in the media still pretending like McGregor's biggest selling point wasn't the UNKNOWN? People thought McGregor was going to punch like Mike Tyson - the thing is 8 oz gloves are a totally different world than 4 oz gloves, Boxers see almost every punch coming and Boxers train specifically to protect their chins, which allows them to absorb punches that land anywhere else... McGregor will not sell a fraction of the PPVs he sold in another boxing match. McGregor vs. Ferguson or Diaz 3 sells more than any other boxing match right now - even a Floyd rematch.

Cause boxing promoters have more often than not become trash at making a star these days. They see only milking dollars for whatever they have. Not giving us the great fights when fans are clamoring for them, and then when the big fights come, it's so massive that when it's over, you forget about boxing unless you are an actual fan.

                  It's needs a shake up.

McGregor proved to be as good at marketing himself as Mayweather. I can't see any other boxing match coming close to the success he had with Mayweather.... Maybe Pacquiao or Canelo. People still won't admit the match was a genius move by both parties.

Funny how it was a "farce" when Floyd fought him, now Oscar and Manny (2 Floyd Victims) want to fight McGregor! Floyd has outsmarted them both in the ring and out the ring!
