will that change your opinion of him?
So if Cotto loses..........

Of course it will. Paul isn't that great of a fighter, if Cotto loses, that means he can't compete nothing greater than C level competition. He will lose alot of credibility given that most of us are still unimpressed with his chin and how he got wobbled against Corley and knocked down by Torres. -
It will totally stamp my opinion that he's been overrated for years.
I have seen enough of Malignaggi to know he is nothing special. If he beats Cotto, it will be due to what Cotto isn't.Comment

of course, i'm a pretty objective fight fan, and just because hes PR doesn't mean i'm an automatic fan ... but i've always believed the hype surrounding cotto.
but if he loses tomorrow night, it will vindicate all the naysayers and convert me to believe that the hype machine was just running on all cylinders.
cotto wont lose though

Ditto that. I think Cotto is the real thing, but if he can't get to Malignaggi and make him pay, then he's going to be a B-level fighter realistically.Comment

I completley disagree. If Cotto loses tomorrow then that just proves that Paulie is a great fighter. Im telling you this kid reminds me of a White/Italian Sweet Pea.
Lets talk about Cotto winning. Someone asked me would I give Cotto credit if he won and I replied by saying that "it might sound crazy but if Cotto blows Paulie out then I wont give him much credit because Paulie will just prove that he is a club fighter but if Cotto struggles to a very close win then I will give Cotto a ton of credit because I will think that Cotto just beat a very tough, slick boxer who will be very good".Comment

OK, fair points, but if you rate Malignaggi NOW then you should give credit to Cotto if he blows him away. Obviously it would be difficult to tell if that would have been because Cotto is too good or Malignaggi is poor, but winning well has to be better than winning close ceteris paribus, as it is in this case.Comment

He reminds you of a "W/I Whitaker", but also has an incredible chance of really being no more than a club fighter ?
I can tell you why you're thinking that way....because Paulie's been looking like a "W/I Whitaker" against a bunch of club fighters.Comment

Exactly and thats my point but alot of fighters do that and Im not all over them. This kid is different and I think he's the real deal because he seems like a Master boxer and he has the attitude that I love but at the end of the day he could be just another guy looking good against club fighters.Originally posted by jabsRstiffHe reminds you of a "W/I Whitaker", but also has an incredible chance of really being no more than a club fighter ?

I made a thread yesterday saying that I would pick Paulie 100% if he had just one good fight previous to the Cotto fight. They shouldve put him in with a Sosa or Mouse. Its just so hard to go from the guys he's been fighting straight to Cotto. Its like a shock to your system and the talent level will be so different but I think his attitude will offset that and he is ****y enough to rise to the OccasionComment
