IBF, IBO, WBC, WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (37-0-1, 33 KOs) is hoping to fight at least three to four times per year. Because of drawn out negotiations, Golovkin has only fought twice twice per year in 2016 and 2017. In 2017, he won a very close twelve round unanimous over Daniel Jacobs in March at New York's Madison Square Garden, and then came back in September to fight to a twelve round split draw with Saul "Canelo" Alvarez at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

GGG already lost to jacobs and canelo this year. After the rematch when Canelo taxes that ass again, hes going to be known as triple L instead of triple G.

Unifying all the major titles in the MW division has been a personal goal for GGG since he started getting noticed. The last man standing with that last belt would be Trip G's dream if Canelo doesn't take an immediate rematch.

Problem is, Alvarez is worth more money in a fight. My guess is if the rematch doesn't happen straight away than Golovkin loses out on both as Canelo gets the WBO shot in May. That really only leaves a couple of options out there and Golovkin won't sit idle so maybe the mandatory with Charlo makes the most sense.

Trip G against Charlo is fine and a good match, but no way a big event (money) nor a unification (prestige).
