BoxingScene Staff Predictions: Cotto vs. Malignaggi

Well if that's what we're basing, I'm confident that Paulie can win since he boxed the pants off of his last opponent. But that's poor logic, so I won't say it.Originally posted by restless_438i just figure, after Cotto's performance in his last fight, how can you not go with him?Comment

There certainly has been an influx of people picking the underdog lately.

I think it's only natural. LIke, in all honesty I don't see Cotto as a gigantic fan favorite (with the exception of Puerto Ricans) and neither is Paulie with his style. People who are neutral in a fight always want to see something exciting or an upset since it's unexpected. In a fight where logic might dictate people to lean towards Cotto... their hopes get the better of them so they sound much smarter when they're right. Nobody cares when you pick the fighter who's a 10:1 favorite to win, but when you're right about the underdog... well that's another story.Originally posted by RunWithKnivesThere certainly has been an influx of people picking the underdog lately.Comment

i think your taking my comment the wrong way.. It's ridiculous to say there's no logic in looking at a fighters last fight..Originally posted by Dirt E GomezWell if that's what we're basing, I'm confident that Paulie can win since he boxed the pants off of his last opponent. I actually disagree. It was mentioned in the pre-fight build up, I dunno if you saw it, but I think it was Lou Di'Bella or whatever, who said that if Cotto hasnt found Malignaggi by the 7th-8th round, then we will have a new World Champion.Originally posted by Dirt E GomezIn all honesty I think people are going with wishful thinking on this one. I don't care for either fighter really, but I'm pulling for Paulie just because he's technically the underdog. I think Cotto will win though, simply because Paulie's never faced a real game opponent before. He'll be ahead on scorecards before being TKO'd in the 9th.
I really have to agree with this. We dont know how awkward Pauli can really be against the highest opposition, but based on his last fights he makes it so difficult for them to land a decent shot, and then lands about 4 of his own. If Cotto cant adapt to the style within the first couple of rounds, Pauli has a legit chance of winning, and doing what he does best. Jumping on his bike, frustrating opponents and landing his flurries.Comment

Are you simply saying you disagree because I said 9th? I think Paulie will outbox Cotto. However, Cotto will still stalk and get caught up on the ropes in the 9th. Cotto wont land any big shots I think until the 9th either. Paulie will be getting tired and miss-step or miscalculate distance and get caught and wrestled into the ropes and go out on his feet. Cotto doesn't nescesarily have to adapt to Paulie.... he just has to wait. Nobody boxes the perfect match so when he ****s up Cotto just has to pounce. This is all merely speculation though, so we'll find out tommorow night.Comment

I haven't seen Malignaggi so I can't really predict the outcome of this fight, but he must have some movement to stay away from Cotto for 12 rounds.
I hope Cotto brutally KOs him, hopefully a left hook to the body that leaves him writhing around on the floor, smearing mascara all over the ring.Comment
