Comments Thread For: Golden Boy Prez Would Still Entertain Mikey Garcia-Jorge Linares

Despite two unsuccessful attempts recently to make fights with Mikey Garcia (37-0, 30 KOs), if the reigning WBC lightweight champion called Golden Boy Promotions again - they would answer his call. "Yes, yes, yes, because look I've been able to get fights done by being persistent," said Golden Boy President Eric Gomez, during his in-studio appearance on 'the 3 Knockdown Rule' podcast with Mario Lopez.

They should have given Mikey a fair deal to fight Cotto. That would have been an attractive matchup plus Cotto would have a size advantage.

Instead they are doing Cotto vs Ali which is generating zero buzz.

Fight didn't get done because even though you weren't asking for options, you wanted a 50/50 split when Linares is not a draw. Linares last fight had around 2k people at the Forum and was paid 250k. Everyone knows that Mikey is the bigger draw especially in SoCal and he alone would draw more than Linares last did. They also forget to mention that they wanted the fight to happen in late March when Mikey wanted to fight in January after being off since July.

Exactly business. that's why Mikey took the better offer that payed him more to fight Easter. The fight will be mandated by the WBC and Mikey should just go to purse bid. GB is begging to promote a Mikey/Linares fight so we'll see if they bid high enough. It's funny how GB doesn't really put that much effort in promoting Linares fights since he is always fighting in the UK, but yeah, GB knows how to build stars lol

I don't think anyone doubts that that fight will happen. Garcia isn't going to duck them, but at the same time he is kind of the top draw at 130 lb. He's a good fighter that really needs to be sure that he handles his career correctly right now cuz he'll never be hotter. He can remain as hot as long as he keeps winning. Still love the idea of this fight and I don't doubt for a second we will see it in 2018.
