Yeah, Naz was always in Eubank's entourage.. for years.

Eubanks demanded the Logan fight in Oct 88 after seeing Benn/Logan (seeing Logan almost beat Benn), to catapault him into contention to fight Benn for the Commonwealth title (Eubanks saw Benn as a bully, and Eubanks grew up protecting others from bullies). It wasn't long before Eubanks got his man Logan and a date set for Feb 89, he even took a fight against Simon Collins on six days notice to showcase himself on live ITV just eight days before the big test against Logan (Eubanks/Logan was chief support to Benn).

Eubank travelled up to the Wincobank gym to spar in March 1988 and it apparently took him six weeks to lay a glove on Bomber! That's obviously exaggerated, but basically Eubank (or Eubanks as his name was then) was made to look silly at first. Chris said that he'd never seen anything like Herol when he was in New York, and wondered what the hell he had in front of him. He says it took him six weeks to figure Bomber out.

They sparred again, at Barney Eastwood's stable in Belfast in May 1989, and this time Eubank (he'd just changed his name to Eubank - deleting the 's', and had just signed for Barry Hearn) just walked out after a few rounds because Bomber was messing about and wouldn't get into exchanges. Eubank knew that if he could get to grips with Bomber (the ultimate defensive wizard) then he would have little problems getting to grips with Randy Smith (Smith himself was quite well-known as a real defensive wizard, in America), but he walked out because Bomber wasn't taking it seriously. And Bomber was pissed off because he then had no real quality sparring for the McCallum fight.

Do you think dropping the 's' from his name helped his sparring?

I don't know what kind of shape he'd be in right now, Eubank.

I certainly wouldn't of stood much chance against him 10-18 years ago.

I saw that. It was a gladiator training type thing. Benn was a ****ing animal and still angry that Eubank beat him the first time. They had to learn to fight using swords and shields and **** and Benn developed this move where he'd spin round and crack Eubank round the head...in the end Eubank got scared and pussied off claming an injury...It was great
