Comments Thread For: Jacobs-Arias Peaks at 765,000 Viewers, Averages 706,000 on HBO

Ratings for HBO's "World Championship Boxing" tripleheader Saturday night reflected direct boxing competition on ESPN. According to ratings released Tuesday by Nielsen Media Research, Daniel Jacobs' easy victory Luis Arias drew a peak audience of 765,000 viewers and averaged 706,000. Milwaukee's Arias (18-1, 9 KOs) wasn't willing to engage during much of his 12-round defeat to Brooklyn's Jacobs (33-2, 29 KOs), the best opponent of his five-year pro career.

Wilder Vs Stiverne 2 did better ratings on Showtime who has less subscribers

Not too bad since Jacobs was fighting a unknown guy like arias.

solid numbers...Jacobs is garnering a lot of attention with his (cancer)story, the golovkin fight and his boxing skills...he has the right promoter in Eddie hearn and could be a star..ofcourse as long as he keeps winning against the top guys..he has a rematch in the horizon with golovkin, canelo showdown along the way..lemieux-saunders winner..but I'll love to see him face jermall Charlo or sergey derivyanchenko..those are very interesting fights if he can't get any champion in the meantime at 160

I was wondering how long it would take...

Considering Wilder is a HW champion, he should have done far better. Especially if he expects 50% of the purse versus AJ. Jacobs is coming off a loss and fighting an unknown. Not bad numbers all things considered.

The spin is hard on this one. “HBO has more subscribers so those numbers are horrible” . Seems like y’all only use that line for certain fighters. Wilder and Jacobs are both champions. Wilder is also fighting a unknown smh
Weight divisions don’t matter lmao. You think Wilder, AJ l, or Parker could do better numbers than Manny and Floyd just because they’re heavyweights lmaoooo

These are bad numbers for HBO World Championship Boxing. It was not HBO BAD. HBO produced a 30 minute My fight show and barely beat out the Corrales-Machado fight in October. 613,000 viewers for that BAD. The Chocolatito BAD in September had 796,000 viewers and Berchelt-Miura BAD in July had 683,000. IMO World Championship Boxing should be at least a million viewers. Why was this WBC any way? There was no belt.

the cold war is killing boxing. none of these networks are doing well. surely they must udnerstand that it's not good for business to put on fights primarily with only one promotor.

i'm also finding HBO to be increasingly cringeworthy where commentary is concerned. i understand that these guys are employed by HBO, and that hbo is basically a promotor now, but FFS i don't need to you to speculate about a "potential fight of the year" in the third round. makes me want to warf, punch max kellerman, and sit jim lampley down for a serious, "come to jesus" conversation.
