Wil RIGO Get CREDIT moving up TWO Classes For P4P Supremacy?

I think you're asking a great question, but I'm on the opposite end of the spectrum. I do not think that Rigo would be a great win for Lomachenko. Not only is Rigo a smaller fighter, he's also much older. I'm not gonna give Loma too much credit. The real question is will Loma get credit for beating Rigo? Something tells me the same posters that cried about Mayweather not getting credit for beating Marquez are gonna deny Loma credit for beating Rigo.
I consider myself consistent, fair, and unbiased. Marquez was a great win for Mayweather. Marquez was #2 P4P and Mayweather was coming off almost 2 years away from the sport. If Loma destroys Rigo, we have to consider him for P4P #1. And I say that as a big Crawford fan.
On the other hand, I dislike Rigo for various reasons and think he's extremely overrated. However if he beats Loma, I'll bow down to him, anoint him #1 P4P and call him the fighter of the year.Comment

I think it depends on a person's definition of competitive. Loma has pretty much cruised through he's fights untouched. I expect that despite the age and power difference that Rigo is fast and accurate enough to land a few on Loma, and probably look better than anyone else for a few rounds. It does remind me a little of Starling Nunn in the size and age regard too. Marlon was only about 5 6 against a huge 6 2 middle in Nunn, Marlon was pretty close to the end, while Nunn was not maybe riding as high as after he beat Tate and Kalambay, but still seen as an almost unbeatable star at middle at the time. I know it's not a style match in the same way, but I think Rigo makes this a better fight than people expect, and it shouldn't take away completely from Lomachenkos performance if its competitive, special guys don't just roll over, even when giving up physical advantages.Sure but would you say that was a better look for Starling or Nunn that it was competitive? Starling was also a good sized WW who had flirted with the weight bove a few times. Rigo is a small 122lber. 126 could be a serious stretch even if he was prime.
To go up 2 modern weights, or 1 old timey weight, and in your first fight beat someone that good in their prime, when you are most likely not in yours, would be unreal. How many in history have done it? Its a short list.
Loma needs to be winning this comfortably. Which I think he will even if it 'looks' competitive early. I think he is just gonna swarm all over Rigo tbh. Ive seen him fight Cubans in the Ams, admittedly not Rigo's level, and thats how he fights them. High guard, head movement, lots of pivoting around the pocket, high volume body shots and hooks. Like a Mike Tyson style. With a size advantage like he has how is Rigo gonna deal with that? He likely land counters but how much are they gonna affect Loma? A big part part of Rigo's style is whipping his opponents into submission and making them not want to press the attack. His shots need to hurt for that to work.Comment

TWO weight classes sounds like so much more weight than 8 pounds. Pound for pound lists are up to the person or people making the list. No two lists are the same. Some would give him lots of credit and some may not. I think Loma will win so the question will be how much credit does he get on PFP lists for beating a great smaller, older boxer.Comment

Good point. Sometimes the smaller man is better, at least on a given night. The first example of this that came to mind was Roberto Duran. At 5’7”, Roberto moved up from 135 to 147 and beat 5’9” Carlos Palomino, a former welterweight champion. Four fights later, Duran beat 5’10” Ray Leonard. Of course, Duran went on to beat or give hell to several much larger champions.
In recent times, Yuri Gamboa was putting it on P4P fighter Terrance Crawford, before the much bigger man adjusted and imposed his size. As you said, Rigo is just too good not to make this a competitive fight. He might even pull off the upset.Comment

it'll be funny to see loma all of the sudden get credit for being a top p4p fighter if rigo beats him.Comment

🙌🏻 Completely agree, Rigo should deserve credit for daring to be great the same way, Duran, Marquez etc did, and when/if Loma wins (which I assume he will) he should also be credited for beating a p4p talent in Rigo. The real question is will Loma get credit for beating Rigo? Something tells me the same posters that cried about Mayweather not getting credit for beating Marquez are gonna deny Loma credit for beating Rigo.
