Exactly. They're never perfect. No matter what Loma goes on to do, he's always carry a legit Salido loss. Another modern fighter with great resume; Ward. But, it's not perfect as there are tune-ups in there. Calzaghe was an undefeated fighter, but whose resume is lacking a lot of prime opponents.

Then you have past greats like Ali, who had an amazing resume, but with several losses.

All things considered, May's is pretty stellar. Fighting Berto at the end was a mistake as it will forever leave the door open for criticism.

I don't see why anybody with wisdom would critize a fighter for taking a soft touch as a retirement fight. Floyd was pro 19 years at that point which is 3-5 years past the normal retirement years (14-16) for pro's.

For a retirement(at least at time) fight it was not that bad for 38

Anyone "with wisdom" can see how bad a look it was. I have always maintained that I think he deserved to go out on an easy one, esp since he had just beaten Pac and was finishing up his contract. I don't think less of him for it.

But, that doesn't change the optics of the situation. It only gives the many critics their, "Ah ha! I told you!"
And, fuels this nauseating fire that's been burning for years now. Surely you can see that.

Haters that say he avoided guys until they were weak need to do their research and eat crow.

Floyd was calling DLH AND SSM out long before that so no arguments can be made he never tried getting those fights. He called Tszyu, SSM, and DLH back in 2005. Proof below.

That cat's toofeses was coming out y'all, nahmean!

The evidence will show Bob Arum said the DLH fight would make no money and 13 months after leaving Top Rank Floyd broke PPV recods and tapped DLH's asś.

Since Floyd left Top Rank he fought:
              • Baldomir (had to grab the WBC belt to get DLH)
              • DLH
              • Hatton
              • JMM
              • SSM
              • Ortiz
              • Cotto
              • Guerrero
              • Alvarez
              • Maidana
              • Pacquiao
              • Berto
              • McWelfare

For someone that avoided fighters, I would say that evidence states the complete opposite.
everytime they slam his resume, i ask..Name a current fighter whos resume is better...silence!!!

For the "greatest of his generation", it was anti-climactic. The huge drop in sales (for what was "your last chance to see him in the ring") reflects that. Even Floyd fans were embarrassed. Like I said, I didn't want or expect him to do something risky. He deserved to go out on something a little easier. But, at least do a fun fight for the fans, or something that people WANT to see. No one wanted that fight except for May and Berto.

Keep in mind, the world felt robbed by FLoyd and Manny at the time too. Giving them Berto instead of a fan-friendly fight was weak as hell. Only Floyd apologists try to hide that.

I see your point but Berto although not quite top 10 anymore was not thought of as a stinker. But I would have liked Danny G or somone closer to that but don't see it quite as bad as you do.Mostly because he was 38 and retiring. But there was something May seen even early in Berto.Because they were set up to fight like 3 times and Berto kept blowing it lol.

That I agree 100% it gave food for fodder.

I actually think Berto doesn't get enough credit. And, he actually kept Floyd on his toes. The dude came to fight.

As I say though, it's the optics that matter to the public....
